Dark_Angel
07-23-2004, 08:52 PM
Fenway cheers as the bat flies into the Yankees dugout.
Am I the only one who finds that just plain nasty?
Personally, I wouldn't cheer or be happy if one of the Sox got whacked with a bat or got hurt. When Johnny Damon had that collision on the field during the playoffs last year, I was worried about him because it looked so serious.
Hell, I don't even boo the Sox when I'm at Yankee Stadium.
But that's just me. :hmm:
milky_way
07-23-2004, 08:59 PM
Woah, that was close.
Still 3-1 :wait:

Hell, I don't even boo the Sox when I'm at Yankee Stadium.
But that's just me. :hmm:
Hey I booed the Sox :D
You're right that it's classless to cheer injuries. Wasn't really classy to cheer a bat flying at the other team's bench either. But that's the rivalry for ya...I can't say that a bat flying into the Sox dugout at the Stadium wouldn't be cheered by Yankees fans. Some people are just like that :notme:
A-Rod singles
milky_way
07-23-2004, 09:05 PM
Derek still has a scar on his face... :(
milky_way
07-23-2004, 09:06 PM
If I wasn't worried about Jason's health, I would be cursing him right now.
Still 3-1 as A-Rod is erased on a DP.
HOLD THEM AT 3 LIEBS!
milky_way
07-23-2004, 09:09 PM

Gordon threw 30 pitches, got out of two huge jams, and even though he gave up the lead he kept us in the game. Gutty, gutty performance. He is the difference between last year's squad and this one :smokin:
Wow, Schilling was crying? I feel......sorta.....bad for him.........

07-23-2004, 11:47 PM
well, what can i say...the yankees did not deserve to win that game, and yet they did. millar cant field. manny choked. foulke deserves to die. and mariano rivera is the best closer in the game. :notme: can't do anything about it
that was an aweful game
There have been many games the Yanks didn't deserve to win this year, but I think they deserved this one. The offense never gave up, and Gordon really gutted it out.
Giambi and Posada deserves mega props for their at-bats in the sixth against Schilling. Those were HUGE.
And A-Rod. Finally :D

Definitely.
The Yankees are the ones who battled back and ended up winning the game. They did deserve to win for the way they played.
how can you call it a battle when our own little douchebag kevin millar took a ball that was going foul, picked it up, and couldnt do a thing with it. what the hell?!!?!?! thats all red sox. also, the sox couldnt turn a double play. look...hats of to the yanks, they won, but the red sox lost this game, the yanks didnt win it. (if you get my drift :notme:)

My point is, we took advantage of the Sox and their mistakes and won.
The whole game was back and forth. The Yankees had the lead and then the Sox tied it. The Sox took the lead and the Yanks tied it. And so on and so on. The Red Sox had opportunities to score and they didn't. The Yankees battled (or whatever word you prefer) to win the game and they did.

well...look, the yankees won the game, and theres nothing i can say thats gonna change that. ya just cant give the yankees extra outs. thats why i said the yanks didnt ""deserve" this win, because, well, if the sox dont make errors, they probably win the game...you know what im saying? the yanks won, thats it, the end, its ova...o.v.a...ova

That's very true and I see your point. And you know what? If the Sox hadn't made those mistakes, they would have won.
It's never good to give a team more than 27 outs.
I must say that I thought we were screwed there for awhile. :D You guys really got to Lieber and I thought with Schilling on the mound, we would lose.

I guess this is where we disagree. If Millar's non-play directly resulted in two or three runs scoring, I could see your point, but only one run scored, and that run only tied the game. And to even GET to that point, Giambi and Posada put together GREAT at-bats, especially when you consider they were both struggling mightily, especially Jason. No Boston error let the go-ahead runs in either the sixth or the ninth inning score. Yes Boston errors helped keep the sixth inning alive, but the Yanks still had to capitalize in order to get the go-ahead runs in, which they did.
And even after the crazy sixth, Boston still had a great chance, SEVERAL great chances to take the game. But Gordon gutted it out and kept it tied.
Bottom line: the Yanks lineup got to Schilling, the Yanks pitchers kept them in the game. For those reasons, they deserved to win.

I'm kinda leaning more towards feeling shocked. It's not everyday you see a 6'5" pitcher cry.
They said on SportsCenter that after being pulled from the game, he sat in the dugout for awhile and he was so upset, that he had to be consoled.
Schilling made a comment in the paper the other and said something like, "I expect us to win every game that I pitch. If we don't, then I've done something tremendously wrong."

07-24-2004, 12:56 AM
BTW, the Yanks made two errors too. Granted, neither would lead to a run, but I'm just pointing out that both teams made mistakes. The Yanks capitalized and the Sox didn't.

you cant give good teams more outs, which is what the yanks did. not only did millar make a mistake, the sox also failed to turn a double play before that. so the inning should have been over way before. the yankees didnt do that, the sox did

thats right, so the red sox lost the game, because they didnt capitalize, and because we gave up those errors. just proved my point.

A front-runner is someone who roots for a team because they're good.
I actually adore Milky, I'm half-kidding. I always did wonder how people don't root for their home teams.

That was a maybe double play, IMO. Matsui got to the bag around the same time Schilling did, so it would have been really close.
And if Millar lets the ball go foul, Sierra's still alive. Who's to say he doesn't single in the run anyway?
If the Sox had an error like the Ortiz one back in the Wakefield start or the Nomar one in the game before that where crucial runs scored as a direct result of the error, then I can see your point. But the Sox errors today were iffy. The double play was a maybe and we don't know what would have happened if Sierra stayed alive. It's hard for me to say that those plays decided the game because IMO, Giambi's and Posada's at-bats and Gordon's heroics (getting Manny to GIDP and his K of Ortiz) were the deciding moments of the game. Especially Gordon's pitching, because in those spots the game could easily have gone to Boston, but Gordon got out of it.

I'm not a front-runner.
My father was born and raised in New York City and grew up a Yankees fan. He brought me to a lot of games when I was younger, always watched their games with me and told me stories about the history of the Yankees and all of the outstanding players who've been a part of the team. Of course, that was all before I became estranged from him. :hmm:
That's why I'm a fan of the Yankees. Growing up, I also spent a lot of time in New York and I still do. So, in a way, I feel like a New Yorker.
I suppose it's odd not to root for your home team, but I don't. My brother, for example, is a Raiders fan and also roots for the Yankees. I'm a Pats fan, myself.

You are a Pats fan? Why?
One of my best friends is a Pats fan and about four years ago, I was over at her house and she was watching a game of theirs. I had zero interest. I hated football, but I sat there I watched it and the more I watched, the more I liked and I found myself getting into it. I thought, "Hey! This is pretty cool." They ended up losing, but I still liked them.
I was a Patriots fan from then on. My brother and I had fun during the Super Bowl in 2002. ;)

Eh, bandwagonner, front-runner, I'll suck up all the labels. My whole generation is technically front-runners until we prove otherwise. We'll have our share of decades of losing eventually, and once that happens those who want to can shed that label the way older people can now say "Hey I lived through the 80s!" Our time will come :smokin:. The Yanks aren't gonna win forever.

I met and talked to Don Mattingly and jokingly said, hit a homer for me tonight OK..and he did..I know it wasn't for me but still made me feel halfway human for a little while. So there you have it!
