well...we might just swap outfielders...nixon for walker. nixon has a very small contract compared to walker, and hes inhis prime, so

That was the rumor a couple of years ago. I would go for that trade also. Let nixon get better and come back next year. I think the Rox would lose avg and hr but not much fielding and a smaller contract also.

and who knows, nixon could become a great player in colorado...he could end up hitting like 30-35 homers

I think he could do that. He looks like a cluch player also and that is what Walker has been his whole career with the Rox so that would be a great fit. What I think the Rox need and have NEVER ever had is a club house leader.
Helton is starting to fit that roll some what but more on field. I have always wanted to get a firey guy in the club house that will fire some guys up and get them going. I dont know if Nixon is that but Walker sure aint. He is the guy that just hangs out and loves to have burpping contests. A great guy and a great player but people have always looked to him to lead them and he never has.

The only guy I think I could compare with Larry Walker right now is Vlad.
Walker has a gun that no one will run on.
Walker is one of the best fake out fielders in the game. One game in Coors he had a guy on second base he had a fly hit out to him and he acted like he was going to catch it but then the last second turned around and got the ball of the bounce off the wall and threw the guy out running to third.
He dont have the speed he once had but still I feel one of the top three fielders in the game.
He gets hurt often though and that is the reason he is not a HoF. If he didnt get hurt he would be headed to the HoF.
Some say he still might but I dont think he will. Has some great stats though.

For Trot no. But the Sox are in the Walker hunt...

Isn't Walker a multiple Gold Glove winner?

so he's the real deal...excellent. I think this would be a great trade. nixon for walker. both seem like no nonsense shut up and play kind of guys. nixon has a capability of doing real well in coors, and aywhere else, and he just last year broke out, which means he could get a lot better.
how old is larry walker?

If Nixon goes on the DL, it wont happen.

i disagree...the rockies arent going anywhere soon, so to them it wont really matter if nixon's on the DL. they can give a rookie a chance to shine maybe (do the rockies have a good minor leagues? just wondering) so im not sure it matters that much wether nixon is on the dl or not

Walk is 37. Also a 7 time gold glove winner, and one time MVP.
Baserunning & Defense From ESPN
Walker has instincts on the bases and in the outfield that others can only dream about. He often trotted to first base last year, which cost him and the Rockies on close plays. Once he reached base, though, he showed he can still get an extra base, and he never tries to do too much. In right field, Walker does not track the ball as quickly as he used to. His arm is solid. What he lacks in carry he makes up for by never throwing to the wrong base and rarely overthrowing a cutoff man.

The Rox would trade for Nixon with him being on the DL I feel.
The Rox are so very deap in the minor leagues that they got to get some of those kids up. One Holliday is playing freaking great and him or Miles (Rox 2nd baseman rookie) should be fighting it out for the NL Rookie of the year but wont win it because of playing in Coors. (for some reason people think Coors can hit the ball for people ;) )
But the Rox would trade for Nixion and then get him better and trade him in the off season, so some of there kids can start to come up.

the thing is, i wonder how much longer he can keep playing? if we got him for like 3 years that'd be great, but he could break down at any time...

Ya that is the knock on Walker. He has missed half of this season and I dont think he has ever played a full season. Great great player but hurt a heck of alot. But when heathly he is the best out there...

that instantly makes it a tough deal you know? i mean, if we get walker, and he just ups and dies on us, it would be one of the worst deals ever because we gave away such potential talent for a red sox one time wonder

Ah the life of trading!!!!
Ya with Walker if heathy he can carry a hell of a load. A great avg hitter a great power hitter a great hitter when you need a hit a great fielder but a guy that is hurt a lot.

here's his profile at the rox website, i think he'd replace Trot very well, Gabe'll never see the grass again, but i guess it's worth the sacrifice

Walk is a lefty and he just hits. He hit everyone good. Lefty Righty sidearm, overhand, sub, 3/4 it dont matter as he says he just grips it and rips it. He has even hit Randy Johnson well. Walk is a hitter...

hmmm. if only millar knew how to work the outfield a little better we could put walker as a DH. that would work out a lot better, cuz he wouldnt get hurt as often running.
if only millar knew how...

I think I would mix in Walk as a DH. Having him on the bench when he would be the best OF out there is I feel kind of shotting yourself in the foot. It seems that he can get though a season if you play him 3 days and give him a day off. DH him if you play on turf and dont play him in a double header, or a night game and then a day game next. Do that and I think he will be fine for the season.
