Well I heard from Don who heard from John who heard from freds aunt's across the street friend that the Yankees are going to trade Jeter and Sheffield for Neifi Perez.
I dont know if it is true or not but that is what they said...
Ive heard lots this morning. How about Nomah to the Cubs for Matt Clement and requiring to take on Alex Gonzalez. Matt Clement has a losing record of 8-9 (with very little run support, thats why they need Nomah) but has an era of 3.05 and a team high 137 K's.
Second, I heard, depending on how well the Mets are doing, a straight up trade with Lowe for Glavine. The solid lefty that we so badly needed since last year. He has an 8-8 record, again with no run support, but has an era of 2.16.
ALSO, Ive heard other rumors of bringing back Clemens to Boston. This is most unlikely, but the rumor is floating.

I like Lowe for glavine...a 2.16 era is amazing, and if hes 8-8, that must mean that in at least 8 starts he got less than 2 runs a game. thats like bronson arroyo numbers in run support. he could win us a lot of games if he came here, and im sure he would want to come here

Actually, he would LOVE to come to Boston. He was quoted as saying he wanted to retire as a Sox. So we'll see. He too has a no trade clause in his contract. Im pretty sure he would waive it without blinking.

i actually remember him saying that, i think last year, right? I would love to see glavine end as a sox. he's always been on of my favorite pitchers. lets make it happen :D

Guys, we are doing nothing. There isn't a deal worth doing out there.

You guys can take Stanton and Franco for the outside of a baseball and the little rubber ball thing in the middle of it.

Bullpoop. A good GM will find/make a deal happen.

I read in Baseball Weekly that the Sox will only take Lowe if another starter is involved. They recently offered him to San Diego for Brian Lawrence(another starter) and Xavier Nady(a pretty good outfield prospect), but San Diego rejected. That might have been a respectable trade if Lowe had kept up his numbers from two years ago, but boy, how things change in two years.

Seriously though, we must find a right fielder. NOW.

i think theo is a good GM. hes done a good job getting foulke (i know, i know) and schilling. Also he picked up Ortiz, whichwas huge. those are offseason trades though...he has yet to do anything that helps us in the middle of the season. it doenst matter if he thinks the sox are good enough, we can always get beter. we need a rightfielder, and a SP, unless lowe picksit up real soon, which it seems like hes doing. RF is top priority

I hear that big deals by the deadline are not likely this year, and that most trades will happen after July 31st.

07-28-2004, 03:10 PM
yeah, the waver wire deals. thats what ive been hearing too, because teams will start to fall out. just not yet

07-28-2004, 03:11 PM
yup. thats how most of the trades will get done. benson will be going to minnesota however by the weekend

07-28-2004, 03:15 PM
Benson will get eaten alive in the AL.
Thedatch
07-28-2004, 03:20 PM
he might be the next jeff suppan (who is by the way doing pretty well with St. Louis)
PissedPrincess
07-28-2004, 03:23 PM
Yeah, in St. Louis. I guarantee Benson gets murdered by the good AL teams.
THEO GO GET A F*CKING RF'ER!!!!!!!!!!!

who's ur top pick? walker with his salary? who else is out there? :notme:
PissedPrincess
07-28-2004, 03:29 PM
I guess. Walker is always hurt too though. :(
Thedatch
07-28-2004, 03:32 PM
yeah, i tlaked with 'rango a lot about this in the nixon out for the year? thread. he suggested using him limited in the OF, like 3 days, then DH him. that way he wont get hurt as much. millar is a better OF than 1st base, so.
rockin500
07-28-2004, 03:33 PM
walker is getting too old. he should be a DH.
PissedPrincess
07-28-2004, 03:34 PM
Millar is NOT a better RF'er than a 1st baseman. He's AWFUL in RF.
Thedatch
07-28-2004, 03:38 PM
yeah, but he's even worse at 1st base!
rockin500
07-28-2004, 03:38 PM
can millar play any position all that well?
Thedatch
07-28-2004, 03:40 PM
dont count on it...
pp-you may be right about him sucking in RF, but he doesnt have as many chances to hurt the team as he does at 1st base. 1st basemen handle everything (supposed to anyway) RF gets less cahnces
bradyjames12001
07-28-2004, 03:42 PM
How do you suck at first base? All you have to do is catch balls thrown at you. I played 1st for 4 years in little league, and I caught every ball. Maybe I could audition for first base.
Thedatch
07-28-2004, 03:46 PM
ya know whats funny? they ususally put all the big hitters on first base. Thome, Puhols, Vaughn, and now even piazza. and they are all better than millar, and he ist even that big of a hitter! its kinda sad
bradyjames12001
07-28-2004, 03:51 PM
Boy, Piazza at first worked especially well, didnt it?(sarcasm alert) Pujols was basically a superstar utility man until they finally found a position for him, and Thome cant play anywhere else but first. Slow Vaughn is better than Millar? I guess in his peak years he was.
Thedatch
07-28-2004, 03:57 PM
no need to be fast at 1st base, just need some instincts, and to be able to scoop the ball. millar has neither of those skills

The Post's Troy E. Renck reports that there is a "50-50 chance" that the Rockies will find a taker for Larry Walker. The Marlins, Yankees and Red Sox are all rumored to be interested in the former All-Star.

heard another one today Clement and Gonzalez from the Cubs for Nomar

This is still a possibility. Glavine would approve the trade if its presented. PP, How do teams trade when the deadline is over? Its all about the waivers right? How does that work??
ps - did y'all know that Glavine is a Billerica, MA native? I didnt. :notme:

The player is placed on waivers. When a team puts a claim on him, the team with the worst record gets first dibs if more then one claim is put in. The 2 teams then can negotiate a trade.

Well Tuesday is the last day in August. When do teams get expanded rosters or at least the ability to?

Why not Blue?? I think we need a lefty on our roster.
