The Lowell Spinners are a farm team of the Boston Red Sox. As some of the Lowell players were coming out of the stadium after tonight's game I told some of them that when they make it to the majors with the Red Sox that they should kick some Yankees ass

Cyclones Shutout Spinners
7/29/04
The Brooklyn Cyclones downed the Lowell Spinners by a score of 1-0 on the back of outstanding pitching and solid defense. With the win the Cyclones improved their record to 24-14 and increased their McNamara Division lead to four games thanks to a Hudson Valley loss. Scott Hyde (1-0) got his first career win after pitching six shutout innings, and Eddy Camacho got the save after closing out the victory with three near-perfect innings of relief.

In a game where the teams combined for only six hits, but managed to strikeout a combined 18 times, it was fitting that the only run of the game would come thanks to a strikeout that was not converted by the Lowell Spinners. In the bottom of the sixth Ambiorix Concepcion struck out after swinging at a 1-2 pitch in the dirt, but Spinners catcher Salvador Paniagua’s throw down to first base pulled the first baseman off the bag, allowing Concepcion to reach. After stealing second, Concepcion came around to score on an RBI double by Grant Psomas which gave the Cyclones the 1-0 lead.

One run was all that the Cyclones would need, thanks to superb pitching from starter Scott Hyde and reliever Eddy Camacho. Hyde allowed only two hits over six innings, but faced the minimum number of batters thanks to three double plays turned by the Cyclones defense. Scott also struck out six batters on the way to picking up his first professional victory. Camacho was just as solid in relief, allowing only one hit over three innings while striking out three batters to get the save.

The Cyclones return to action tomorrow evening when they take on the Lowell Spinners at 7:00 p.m. Michael Devaney (0-0) takes the mound for the Cyclones in search of his first professional win. Standing room only tickets will be available for purchase beginning at 10:00 am at the KeySpan Park box office.
