I've heard that one too. I was reading yesterday in my local paper that the Yanks were looking at Fred McGriff.

I read that they weren't impressed with Crime Dog's workout.
I like this move. Olerud is insurance if Giambi doesn't come back, and he's great with the glove. And he's basically free

Olrude in a Yank uniform :(. I miss him. It's a good move for the yanks. Gets Clark who can be shakey at 1B and also while hitting. Johnney is a great fielder. Though he is getting old I'm sure he still has a little more in him.

I was hoping that the Jays would go after some of those former Jays (Olerud, McGriff, Borders) Stupid Yankees.

I've always liked John and his safety helmet. Could have picked a better team though.

according to report, John Olerud will join with the team on Tuesday and will start at First baseman and Clark will move to a back-up role.

He's hitting about what Giambi and his parasites were. In the .240 range.

Olerud is a great defensive first baseman. He will add alot to you team just with his defense. His offense, however, is a negative at this point. He has lost a lot of bat speed. He does not resemble the hitter he use to be at all. I would not get too excited about his offensive potential. My guess is that he hits somewhere around .240 with an OPS around .750

And another thing -- he's also veeerrrrrry slow. We're talking glacial.

I think this is truely a kick in the face to Tony..he's played very well covering for Giambi..I think it's pretty shitty to go out and get another 1st baseman and just push him to the back of the line when he has shown he can be a decent starter.

I was thinking the same thing, Clark is hitting pretty good and I bet he still can hit better than Olerud. It is a waste of time and money to get Olerud, Yankees could have spend some for bullpen instead.

I think it's a great addition. The Yanks signing Olerud is more a result of the uncertainty surrounding Giambi than it is of Clark's contributions, IMO. We don't know how long Giambi will be out or if he'll even play again this season. It's not smart to go for an extended period with only one first baseman.

True Kiddo, but to just throw clark back into a back up spot is wrong..let Clark keep the starter spot and make Olerud play back up. I just think it's a real insult to a guy who has stepped up to the plate when he was needed and did a great job.

Yeah I thought it was odd to immediately give Olerud the starting job. I would prefer a platoon, but so far Olerud can't seem to make an out in pinstripes so I hope Joe stays with the hot hand.
