BY THE INQUIRER STAFF
TRENTON - Justin Pope won a duel of one-hitters to lead the Trenton Thunder past the Norwich Navigators, 2-0, in the Eastern League last night.
The only other one-hitter in Trenton history was by Justin Duchscherer, now with the Oakland A's, in 2001 at New Haven.
Pope (2-1) carried his no-hit bid through 62/3 innings before Michael Cervenak singled. He then retired the final seven batters. He struck out 10 and walked just one.
Trenton scored the only runs of the game in the fifth inning off Norwich reliever Mitch Walk (4-7).
Craig Wilson walked and scored on a double by Jason Grove, who later scored on a wild pitch.
Reading. The Phillies promoted pitcher Lee Gwaltney from single-A Clearwater to double-A Reading.
He will start for Reading tomorrow in Akron.
