Ok so now Wilpon has the rotation set, there are NO EXCUSES to not open the wallet and get some bullpen help and offensive help.
This team can't rely on a aging guy like Piazza to be the main cog in the offense. We are already witnessing what a horrible funk he can get into along with Floyd and just be very unproductive.

Joel Sherman was just on WFAN and was saying Wilpon needs to step up and stop acting like these are the MILWUAKEE Mets. This is NEW YORK we need to go after a real big time hitter to put in the middle of the lineup.

Does anyone here have any real confidance that Wilpon will spring for a bonifide legit hitter for the lineup who can push Piazza down in the order?

They already said they are going for it so I want to see him own up to it and act like we are going for it next year and add the missing pieces in the offseason, no more looking for bargain projects in the lineup because that isn't going to cut it when Leiter and Glavine are closing in on retirment and Piazza and the other aging vets are getting older

Step up to the plate Wilpon, you feel close enough to be going for it then prove it

First of all, it's not Joel Sherman's money. And, for that matter, it's not your money either. It's Fred Wilpon's money, and NEWSFLASH! he doesn't have as much of it as George does. And neither you nor Joel Sherman has a right to tell him how to spend it.

Second, it cost Wilpon money to buy out Doubleday's share of the team, and he's still paying off the debt service. After 9/11, other potential investors lost money in the market and couldn't put up the cash to help that had originally been expected.

Third, it cost him $54 million to buy out the MSG/FSNY deal a few months ago. This hurts cash flow in the short term, but should improve it in the long term because he'll either a) get a better deal with MSG/FSNY or b) start his own network.

Fourth, we've seen from the Skanks and Red Sox that throwing tons of money at players does not guarantee championships. Jason Giambi is making a $hitload of cash, and he and his parasites (and the tumor) are batting .240. Jose Contreras and his $32 million contract were so productive that they're now in Chicago...except that George is paying a chunk of said contract.

I am really just sick and tired of all the whining from Mets fans. Life's way too short to whine about things you have no control over.
