Abreu's shot leaves one fan smiling

If you're looking for a silver lining in this dismal road trip for the Phillies, look no further than Saturday's game.

The Phillies posted a 4-3 win over the Cubs in Chicago. So far, it is the lone win against six losses on a road trip that continues tomorrow night in San Diego.

And when Bobby Abreu connected for a third-inning home run off Cubs starter Matt Cle-ment, he won $1,000 for Doreen Minton in the Daily News Home Run Payoff contest. It was the first time a contestent had won money in 20 games.

Minton, of Cinnaminson, N.J., became the 18th winner this season.

Four other contestents won a Phillies Gift Pack during the third inning Saturday. They were: Joanne Russo, of Aldan; Bruce Douglass, of Malvern; Richard Raines, of Woodbury, N.J.; and Megan Ayling, of Hatboro.

Winning Phillies Gift Packs during the fourth inning of yesterday's game were: Mary Curay, of Clifton Heights; and Philadelphians Ed Weick III and Demetra Sideris.

The gift pack includes a variety of Phillies-related items.

The Daily News pays $1,000 for a home run hit in the Payoff inning and $10,000 for a grand slam. Contestants whose batter fails to hit a home run receive a gift pack.

To date, the Daily News has paid out $18,000.You can hear the Home Run Payoff inning during each Phillies game on WPEN (950-AM).
