Family: Wife Luisa, son Felix Jr. (9) and daughter Helen (7).

Signed: Oct. 17, 1989, by Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent.

Thrown a curve: Converted from a catcher to a pitcher in 1993 at Class A Vero Beach and went 8-8 with a 3.75 ERA in 32 appearances (20 starts).

Big-league debut: May 13, 1995, vs. St. Louis, a day after being called up from Triple A Albuquerque.

First win: June 4, 1995, pitching an inning in relief vs. New York Mets.

New uniform: Released by Dodgers after 1996 season, signed by Cincinnati on Dec. 23, 1996.

First start: Aug. 25, 1997, vs. Colorado; allowed 2 runs in 4 2/3 innings.

An original D-back: Opened Diamondbacks' inaugural season as closer and saved five of first nine chances before switching into setup role for Gregg Olson.

Bay wonder: Joined Giants in 1999 and spent more than five seasons as one of baseball's best setup relievers. He dazzled in 2001, going 9-1 with a 1.68 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 80 1/3 innings. His record with the Giants: 31-14.
