Minor Leagues | Trenton splits two; Reading is routed

TRENTON - Steve Karsay picked up his first double-A win in 11 years by throwing an inning of scoreless relief to help the Trenton Thunder split a doubleheader against the Binghamton Mets in the Eastern League yesterday afternoon.

Karsay, who is attempting to return to the New York Yankees, got the save in the 4-3 opening-game win, and Binghamton scored five runs in the seventh inning of the second game for a 5-2 win.

With the game tied, 3-3, in the sixth inning of the first game, Karsay (1-0) came on and threw a perfect inning, including two strikeouts.

Aaron Rifkin broke a tie with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the inning to give Trenton a 4-3 lead.

Harrisburg 11, Reading 3

HARRISBURG - Shawn Norris had a double, a homer and five RBIs to lead the Senators past the Phillies in the Eastern League.

Kevin Barker extended his hitting streak to 18 games for the Phillies with a single.

Augusta 4, Lakewood 1

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Mickey Hall drove in all four runs as the GreenJackets won the South Atlantic League game.

Frederick 10, Wilmington 3

FREDERICK, Md. - Jay Gibbons homered and drove in five runs to lead the Keys to the Carolina League win.

Scranton. The Red Barons' doubleheader at Richmond was canceled because of wet grounds and will not be rescheduled.
