What is the general feeling out there?
Do we still have an outside shot at the playoffs if this team turns it around and turns it around right now?
We are 8 back of the Braves and 7.5 in back of Wild Card leader Cubs....
Do you think the Mets have enough in them to make a run?
Keep in mind that we play the team with the most wins in baseball this weekend but then we play the Astros (2.5 games ahead of us), Arizona and Colorado (2 teams at the bottom of the NL), San Fran (5.5 games ahead of us), SD (6.5 games ahead of us) and then LA (West division leader.. For now)
All those West teams are coming to Shea except San Fran and Colorado....
Then we end the month vs the Marlins... So we play almost all teams in front of us that we can move up up and drop them along with some teams that we should be at worst, be able to take 2 of 3 from if we are playing well....
A chance? A small one.. But we are not dead yet.. The next 3 weeks IMO will set up our fate....

I don't stop believing until we're mathematically eliminated. Especially with our division this season, no one's running away with it. Yes, the Braves have been doing much better lately and starting to pull away a little, but I'll never give up on the Mets while they still have a chance.
LET'S GO METS :D

The wildcard is not even an option with so many teams to jump over in my opinion. The only way in is to win the division, but then again how many times have we seen the mets down this season only to get back up and "battle".
As for this month I think the series with the Cards MAYBE we have an adavantage with Glavine and Leiter going.
We need to have a month of baseball like the braves had last month going something like 20-8 or hope for the other teams to get pounded and lose on their own.
HOPEFULLY we go into September like 3-4 games out and get ready to fight the braves DAMN we have a 5 game series with them starting september 13 with a douleheader  and then we finish the season in Atlanta
ok but lets pray this month goes well and we beat the team we're supposed to and get better against the good teams

Hey, Jodi that is my line! I totally agree with you.
Plus this team has fight in them. If there is a way to win, they'll find it. By the same token, if there is a way to lose, they'll find it, too :D (lol). I believe that the Mets will fight tooth and nail to the end.
But I love this team despite their many flaws...
The whole problem is both the Mets and the Braves got hot at the same time, but the Braves continued to rise and the Mets fell.

i think we are out. I thought we were out at the all-star break. Even though we were pretty close then I felt we justn't didn't have the offense to carry the team.
Unless, Piazza and Floyd step up big time I don't see how we can make it.
We have the Cards and then the Astros.
I don't see the braves going on a long losing streak.
But I;n usually a pessimist. But I have been right the last few seasons. And I didn't have much faith in our team this year. The way they hyped Cameron and Matsui was hilarious. Other than that the team was basically the same.
But you never no. I want our team to prove me wrong.

I never expected to make the playoffs this year. Sure, it would have been a nice surprise, and I of course had/have faith, but I never expected it.
It's really a transitional year. We have a lot of new faces. They need some more practice. Time to gel. And Reyes needs to teach Matsui how to be a shortstop.
Be patient, my friends. We've got another two years to go.

Acquiring Benson was stupid. Wiggy would have done MUCH better in the long run.

If Benson does not re-sign with us then yes, I would agree but if he does, IMO Benson will be a better fit for us... Wiggy was probably going to be a bench player anyways with this team....

I think there's an excellent chance Benson will re-sign. His agent has an excellent relationship with the team, and has already said he'd recommend it.
You know, if we hadn't gotten him, the Braves would have, so we had to pounce first. And I'm thinking that next year's FA class is not as impressive as in years past.
