The Diamondbacks traded veteran second baseman Roberto Alomar on Thursday to the Chicago White Sox for cash consideration and a player to be named later.
"It’s going to be nice to be able to get a chance to play," said Alomar, who is 287 hits shy of 3,000 for his career. "That’s all I can say right now."
Alomar said last week that he expected the White Sox to try to make a deal with Arizona prior to last Saturday’s non-waiver trade deadline and was frustrated nothing was done.
Alomar went 4 for 5 Wednesday night in a victory over Florida.
Since returning from the 60-day DL following surgery to repair a broken bone in his right hand, Alomar has played sparingly and was used primarily as a bench player for the Diamondbacks, who have given the starting job to rookie Scott Hairston.
Well, that answers that question I asked in the last thread regarding Alomar starting. He was a large part of last night's win and hitting well to very well in his rare appearances. And now we lost him, for CASH and an a PLAYER TO BE NAMED LATER. Watch, it will probably be another freaking prospect, someone who MIGHT be good...but we'll have to see. I don't understand Pedrique's reasonings here....sure, at first when Alomar came back Hairston had the hot bat, you have to have him start. But to continue giving him the starts when Alomar has been hitting so well is foolish. The thought was "We have to see what this kid can do" Well we've seen...he still needs work...we could have let Alomar play and perhaps not have such a horrible win-loss percentage with a few more hits and no misread signs for hit and run or bunt. But now, we lose one of our hottest bats for what?
Holy geez that was a rant...sorry folks, but Pedrique has really screwed the pooch in my opinion.
