A Win For The Cyclones Isn't In The Cards
8/07/04
The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the New Jersey Cardinals by a score of 13-7 on Saturday evening. The Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead after four innings, but the Cyclones rallied to cut the deficit to 5-4 after five. In the top of the sixth, however, the Cardinals offense exploded, scoring eight runs on seven hits to take control of the game. Evan MacLane (3-3) suffered the loss for Brooklyn after allowing eight runs, seven of which were earned, on nine hits in five innings of work; a rare poor performance for the lefty. With the defeat, the Cyclones record dropped to 28-19 and their McNamara Division lead was trimmed to 1.5 games over the Hudson Valley Renegades, and 3.5 games over the victorious Cardinals.
KeySpan Park was a launching pad tonight, as the teams combined to hit five home runs. Tyler Davidson went yard for the fifth time this season when his solo blast in the fourth inning put the Cyclones on the board at 5-1. Later in the game, Matt Fisher hit his first career home run to cut the score to 13-7 heading into the ninth, but that is where the late inning rally would end as the Cyclones would fall by that score.
The Cyclones look to snap their three-game losing streak tomorrow evening when they travel to New Jersey to face the Cardinals in the second game of a three-game series. Right hander Scott Hyde (2-0) will toe the rubber for Brooklyn at 5 p.m. The ‘Clones return to KeySpan Park on Monday night for the finale of the three game series against the Cardinals at 7:00 pm. Great seats are still available and can be purchased at the KeySpan Park box office or over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX.
