What about Bernie with his grand slam in the first?

Let's hope E-Lo does good tomorrow. :gt:

Haha, E-Lo. That's good, he needs a nickname. Loaiza has too many vowels right next to each other :bash:

Yeah, he did need a nickname. All of our other pitchers have one:

Brown: Brownie
Hernandez: El Duque
Mussina: Moose
Vazquez: Javy
Lieber: Liebs
Rivera: Mo
Quantrill: Q
Gordon: Flash

and now...

Loaiza: E-Lo

:D

Hmmm... Sturtze doesn't have one, though. :hmm:

Speaking of Tanyon Sturtze, I couldn't believe it when I saw this photo of him:

That's why I didn't think it was Sturtze at first in that photo -- he's got such a big smile on his face. I've never seen him smile before.

I think he looks like a deer with those eyes. :D

When is he going to make a good impression with New York?! http://members.aol.com/JASPNYY/enraged.gif He nearly lost the last game for us that he started and then he goes and screws up today. :bonehead

I don't have high expectations for him. Anything around 7.0 innings, 4 runs would satisfy me. He's gone after this year anyway :smokin:

now tell me something...would you rather have a pitcher who could beat everyone but the red sox, or someone who can't beat anyone? :D

I'd rather have a pitcher who could beat everyone, excluding the Red Sox. If we had a pitcher that couldn't beat anyone, he would be absolutely useless.

Contreras can beat anyone but the Sox? That's a bit of an exaggeration, being he has a 4.34 ERA this year against the rest of baseball. He's been mediocre at best against everyone else, and extremely horrible against Boston.

The one thing I always worried about Contreras is pressure. He has a 6.94 ERA against .500+ teams this year and a 4.05 ERA against sub-.500 teams. He would look dominant in some innings and absolutely fall apart in others. He has great stuff, so if the White Sox can fix him mentally then they have themselves an Ace.

That's why this trade is sorta depressing--the Yanks have failed to develop yet another promising pitcher. And while I'd be happy for Jose if he does turn it around in Chitown, my disappointment in the Yankees coaching staff would increase.

That said, I'm extremely glad Loaiza will be off the payroll in three months. There are some nice pitchers on the market this year, and the Yanks have two spots open :naughty:
