TAMPA -- A roster full of baseball legends will be on hand Sunday to honor Ted Williams and his 2002 inductees into the Ted Williams Hitters Hall of Fame.

The ninth annual ceremony will take place at noon next to Williams' museum in the city of Hernando, Fla., about 75 miles north of Tampa. Former Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda will be the master of ceremonies as former great hitters Dwight Evans (Red Sox), Roger Maris (Indians, Kansas City A's, Yankees, Cardinals), Don Mattingly (Yankees), Cal Ripken, Jr. (Orioles) and Enos Slaughter (Cardinals, Yankees, KC A's, Braves) are inducted.

Pitchers Gaylord Perry and Virgil Trucks will be honored on the Wall of Great Achievement, and the Splendid Splinter Award will go to current Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter. The 3,000 Hit Club Award winner will be former Tiger Al Kaline and the Most Productive Hitter of the Year is new Yankee Jason Giambi. The Rookie of the Year is also a Yankee, Alfonso Soriano.

Members of the Maris family and all of the other honorees are expected to attend the two-hour event along with Hall of Fame Broadcaster Ernie Harwell and former Major League pitcher Ryne Duren, among others.

A number of Williams' friends are expected to be present, too. But there is no definitive word on whether the 83-year-old Williams, who has had many health concerns recently, including a five-day hospital stay, will attend.

"We just don't know at this point," said museum director John Kriston.
