Who needs to take the fall for this disaster of a season?

Make a blame pie.

Mine:

Ownership/Uppermanagement->30%

Francof*ck and his useless coaches->30%

Players->40%

People who should be fired: Theo, Francona, Lucchino.

Players to ditch: Lowe, Adams, Kim, Embree, Williamson, DiNardo, Malaska, Millar, Tek, all the bench drek.

okay, mine's more like...

players 60% (can't win if the players don't score runs)

Terry Francona 10% (cost us 7 games approx.)
Dale Shwain? however you spell his name 7% (dumbest 3rd base coach since speedy wendell kim)

rest of coaching staff 3% can't really blame em much

Theo 10% (made some great aquisitions, but left the sox without any speed or defense, something he corrected far too late)

Owners (Henry, Lucchino, werner) 10% (couldn't pull off a-rod trade, took too much crap from players)

people to dump: francona, shwain, millar, lowe, bullpen and the owners (sell the team you idiots!)

Players: 40%
Ownership/upper management: 40%
Manager/coaches: 18%
Injuries: 2%

Like Ray said, if the players don't play, we can't expect much. Theo et al really screwed things up with the A-Rod debacle. That was a huge distraction and led to Nomar's departure. Plus, they made the decision to hire Francona. Let's face it, Francona was never the front-runner for that job until Curt came into the picture. Management took it up the tailpipe just to get Curt in here. As far as Francona's job performance goes, I really don't need to get into that. I threw injuries in there because surely losing Nomar and Trot for most of the early season cost us some games.

Bellhorn
Mueller
Nomar
Trot
Williamson
Pokey
Burks
Kim

All have lost SIGNIFICANT playing time. But here's my problem with blaming the players more. Statistically, they do hit, they do score runs, and they pitch fairly well.

SOMETHING is missing. Something intangible. Heart, cohesiveness,team spirit, what have you. That has to come from the top, and be trickled down. There is ZERO accountability here.

what's missing is clutch hits. look at millar...he only hits when there is no one on,or no one in scoring position. i think all of his homers are solo shots. sure we hit, but we get 1 run at a time.

clutch hitting is whats missing. and defense up till now.

Sorry Datch, it's just not true.

Sox compared to MLB

OBP->1st
Slg->2nd
OPS->1st
BA->3rd
runs scored->3rd

IN ALL OF MLB!

I'll have to look it up, but I remember reading about 2 out, 2 strike hits, and we led MLB there too.

while you are looking stuff up, how many come from behind wins did we have last year? cuz if we came from behind as much as we did last year (which i consider clutch) we would be leading the AL east. listen...the red sox either score a lot, or nothing. when we score a lot, we get a lot of "clutch" 2 out hits, and hits with 2 strikes and such. but we dont need the runs then. we need the runs during games which are decided by 3 runs, which we do not do. when the sox fall behind, the game is over. so stats do lie

Stats don't lie, they just tell ONE story. What has killed us is our 1 run loss record. It's abysmal.

SABR dudes call 1 run wins/losses luck. I disagree. I call it managing. For example the Yanks, with their HUGE lead, don't stand out in any categories. But they win all their 1 run games. Why? I believe it's managing, and attitude.

and clutch hitting

The only way SABR dudes define clutch hitting, is close and late. In other words, how do you hit from the 7th inning on, with 2 outs, in close games. Guess what? We do very well.

so then why dont we come back more often? if we do so well?

attitude goes a long way towards winning 1 run games. when you are have a confidence you are going to win, it seems like you get that base knock to drive in the run in pressure situations. but when the confidence is lacking, it seems like every passed ball or wild pitch lets in a run.

agreed. but princess just said we do very well in clutch hitting...and yet we still dont win close games

Because we do stupid shit like getting picked off, get caught stealing, throwing errors, getting thrown out at home. :hmm:

yeah, i can agree with that, but it surely cant be the only reason the red sox dont win those games. that happens every onece in a awhile, not everytime

you can get as many base knocks as you want with RISP, but if you have dumbass baserunning, the guy may still get thrown out on the bases.

and when you throw the ball into the stands on bunts or choppers or cant field the ball cleanly in the late innings and give teams 4 outs, that costs teams victories.

This crap happens on a nightly basis here. I am NOT kidding. We lost 4 1 run games on our just completed road trip.

2 games we had the tying run thrown out at home with less than 2 outs.
1 game we had a runner picked off 2nd.
1 game Damon throwing error. :angry:

The Red Sox have the 2nd fewest 1-run wins in MLB. I think Arizona is 1st.

When I get time, maybe over the weekend, I'll chronicle the 15 losses. I guarantee boneheaded plays determined the outcome. :angry:

I'm at the point now, I try not to look at what we did (or lack thereof) so far this season, but what remains of the rest of the season.

The Red Sox need to turn the notch up and fuggin' cowboy up.
