Cyclones Lose Heartbreaker To Ironbirds
8/16/04
The Brooklyn Cyclones fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds (28-29) by a score of 5-4 on Monday night. Brooklyn trailed 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, but came back to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth, before giving up the decisive run in the top of the ninth. Aristedes Almenar (0-1) suffered the loss for the Cyclones after allowing one run over his 2.1 innings of work. With the loss the Cyclones record drops to 31-24 and but remain in first place in the McNamara Division, at least ½ a game in front of the New Jersey Cardinals and two games ahead of the Hudson Valley Renegades.
The Cyclones took an early 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the second and third innings. In the bottom of the second Jim Burt singled home Tyler Davidson, and in the third Ambiorix Concepcion continued his hot hitting with an RBI single to plate Kevin Rios. But Aberdeen fought back scoring twice in the fifth and sixth innings to give them a 4-2 advantage.
Brooklyn bounced back in the bottom of the sixth courtesy of an Ambiorix Concepcion solo blast to cut the score to 4-3 and in the ninth inning Tyler Davidson smashed and RBI single to drive home Dante Brinkley and tie the game at 4-4. But in the top of the ninth, Arturo Rivas scored on a two out single by Rafael Diaz to give Aberdeen a 5-4 victory.
The Cyclones will take advantage of a league wide off day tomorrow before returning to action on Wednesday on Staten Island against the Yankees. Brooklyn will return to KeySpan Park on Thursday to take on the Staten Island Yankees at 7:00 pm.
