Randolph eyes victory in first start
Pittsburgh (56-60) at Arizona (36-84), 6:35 p.m. MST
By Steve Gilbert / MLB.com

Stephen Randolph will make the first start of his big league career Tuesday as the Diamondbacks take on the Pirates in the second game of a three-game set at Bank One Ballpark. Pittsburgh won the opening game in 10 innings, 8-7, Monday night.
Randolph, 30, has appeared in 39 games out of the bullpen this year for the D-Backs after making 50 relief appearances during his rookie year in 2003. Prior to that, though, the left-hander had been primarily a starter throughout his minor league career.

Randolph is taking the starting spot of rookie Lance Cormier, who has been sent to the bullpen to work on his mechanics after struggling in his first five starts.

Arizona skipper Al Pedrique managed Randolph in Triple-A Tucson during the 2002 season when Randolph made 27 starts and led the Pacific Coast League in wins with 15.

"I need to give Stephen enough time to see what we can get from him as a starter," Pedrique said. "I saw him as a starter in Tucson, and I thought he was impressive. If everything works out, we have another option for next year in the rotation."

So what do you guys think? Does he have the stuff.....he's done pretty well out of the bullpen. And hey, he can't do much worse then some of our other rookies, right?
