Left-hander Jeff Housman has had an eventful month. He celebrated his 23rd birthday Aug. 5. Then, he was promoted from Class AA Huntsville to Class AAA Indianapolis as a replacement for Jorge De La Rosa, who debuted with the Brewers on Saturday night. After that, Housman was named Brewers minor-league pitcher of the month for July.

In five starts for Huntsville, Housman went 3-2 with a 1.55 earned run average. He struck out 37 batters and limited opponents to a .185 batting average.

Housman, who was a 33rd-round draft pick in 2002, was 5-8 with a 3.13 ERA in 23 games (20 starts) for the Stars.

The Brewers minor-league player of the month was infielder Hernan Iribarren, a 20-year-old Venezuelan who has pulverized opposing pitching in the Arizona rookie league.

Iribarren, who signed as a non-drafted free agent in late March after two seasons with the Brewers team in the Dominican Summer League, hit .436 in July with two homers and 19 RBI and is drawing comparisons to a young Roberto Alomar.

He had 41 hits, including five doubles and six triples, scored 20 runs and stole seven bases. His on-base percentage for the month was .505 and he is considered by some to be the best player in the league, leaving Brewers officials to wonder if they should have assigned him to Helena in the Pioneer League, where the competition is slightly tougher.
