Brooklyn Bats Beat Baby Bombers
8/19/04
The Brooklyn Cyclones topped the Staten Island Yankees (20-34) at KeySpan Park on Thursday night be a score of 7-2. Starter Evan MacLane picked up the win for the Cyclones after pitching seven solid innings, allowing only two runs on six hits while striking out six. Ambiorix Concepcion went 3-4 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI for the Cyclones, while Jim Burt went 3-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Cyclones offense. With the victory the Cyclones record improves to 33-24 and their McNamara division lead remains two games over the Hudson Valley Renegades and three games in front of the New Jersey Cardinals.

The Staten Island Yankees took a 1-0 lead with a run in the top of the sixth, but in the bottom of the frame Ambiorix Concepcion hit a massive three-run home run over the left field wall to plate Corey Coles and Dante Brinkley and give the Cyclones a 3-1 advantage. In the seventh, Brooklyn added another run courtesy of the long ball when Jim Burt blasted a solo home run off the scoreboard to increase the lead to 4-1. In the top of the eighth, the Yankees added another run, but in the bottom of the frame, the Cyclones offensive explosion continued when Caleb Stewart smacked a two run triple and later scored on a Jim Burt single to give Brooklyn a 7-2 edge. Staten Island scored once in the ninth before reliever Will Quaglieri pitched out of a jam to give the Cyclones a 7-3 win.

The Cyclones look to sweep the three game series tomorrow evening when they head to Staten Island for the series finale at 7:00 pm. Righty Scott Hyde (3-1) will toe the rubber for Brooklyn. The Cyclones return to KeySpan Park on Sunday evening to take on the New Jersey Cardinals at 5:00 pm. Great seats are still available and can be purchased over the phone by calling (718)507-TIXX or in person at the KeySpan Park box office.

I think this thread is great...the details that you give about the game allows Cyclones fans, like myself, who are far away to completely enjoy the game outside of the vague details I get from my Brooklyn connections. I am soo excited to continue to search and read up on previous games as well as the details for the games to come. AWESOME!!!!!!
