Third baseman tied the knot this weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- In a weekend that has proven to be doubly stunning for the Phillies, third baseman Scott Rolen tied the knot with his longtime girlfriend, Niki Warner.
The first surprise, of course, was right fielder Bobby Abreu's emergency appendectomy on Saturday in Venezuela.
As Abreu was undergoing the surgery, Rolen was exchanging vows with Warner in a private ceremony in Key West, Fla., according to Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The couple is reportedly honeymooning in the Caribbean.
Rolen is the third Phillie to get married this offseason. Right-handed pitchers David Coggin (Nov. 17) and Robert Person also removed their names from Philly's bachelor's list. Next on the list is right-hander Terry Adams, whose wedding is set for this Saturday.
It has been an eventful winter for Rolen, who began the offseason by claiming his third Rawlings Gold Glove Award in October. Within weeks, the Phillies initiated talks with Rolen on a nine-figure contract extension.
Rolen, however, declined to negotiate almost immediately, forcing General Manager Ed Wade to entertain trade discussions with the Baltimore Orioles, among others, during December's Winter Meetings.
The trade talks proved to be fruitless and the franchise avoided arbitration by agreeing to terms with Rolen on a one-year, $8.6 million contract.
The team plans to open the 2002 campaign with Rolen manning the hot corner while hitting third in the lineup. The 26-year-old Rolen will become a free agent at the end of the season.
