Only one chance: Randy Johnson's only scheduled start at Tucson Electric Park this spring is March 12.

Want to see Cy Young three-peater Randy Johnson pitch at Tucson Electric Park?

What are you doing March 12?

If the Diamondbacks' tentative pitching schedule holds, Johnson will make his only start at TEP against Seattle on March 12, a game scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.

Johnson also could start one game at Hi Corbett Field, March 17 against Colorado. The D'backs have another split-squad game that day in Hermosillo, Sonora, but he has never made that trip in the past.

The spring schedule is planned to set the regular-season rotation, and Johnson will start the April 1 opener against San Diego.

He will make his first spring appearance March 4 against Milwaukee in Peoria and will follow with a March 8 start against San Diego in Peoria.

Johnson's final starts will be March 22 against Seattle in Peoria and March 27 against the Cubs in Mesa.

At the same time, Curt Schilling will make at least six spring starts in Tucson, perhaps all seven, depending on his whereabouts March 9, when the D'backs have split-squad games here and in Scottsdale.

Schilling, Rick Helling and Miguel Batista are scheduled to pitch in the spring opener March 1 against the Chicago White Sox, while Brian Anderson will go March 2.

Mike Morgan, John Patterson and Jonathan Johnson are to work the March 3 game. Randy Johnson and Todd Stottlemyre will make their first appearances March 4.

Other stuff

* Luis Gonzalez, Jay Bell and Durazo reported early and took some hitting practice Monday. Durazo said he suffered a slight bone bruise in his left hand at the end of the Mexican winter league season in Hermosillo but has been working out at Bank One for the last few weeks and feels fine. Position players are scheduled to report today, with the first workout Wednesday morning.

* Right-hander Matt Mantei threw off the mound Monday, his scheduled day, and looked good, manager Bob Brenly said. "The hardest part is going to be to rein him in," Brenly said.

* Brenly threw batting practice to a group of pitchers Monday and was impressed by Byung-Hyun Kim. "I'm not so sure B.K. might not be the best hitting pitcher on our staff, although Stott (Stottlemyre) will be ticked when he hears that. He looks funny and finishes funny, but every pitch I threw he got the head of the bat on. He was raking."
