Whats up people...quick question ...do you think Red Soxs fans hate the Yanks more then Mets fans ?

BTW- I'm a Mets Fan..who has rooted for the Soxs.{as my second team}..since 1978...

Mets fans are stuck with them every single day. They're everywhere. Like fungus.

Sox fans don't have to deal with their arrogance quite as often as we do. The day the Mets' season was over, an NYY fan here at work started needling me about when the next Mets' game was.

So many of them are nothing less than detestable (loathesome? evil? stupid? whichever works  ). Just like their team.

Red Sox fans. I hear Mets fans rooting for the Yankees because, (it's a NY team).

A Red Sox fan would NEVER root for the Yankees.

I would say Mets Fans...real ones...not I root for New York people

Princess....I can't go to yank vs mets games anymore...almost got arrested 2 years ago at Shea. some knucle head behind kept up with the Piazza is a fag thing..told him 3 times to knock it off..3 rd time.. just turned around and started punching..by the time they got me off him..he was covered in blood..not proud of it..but shite happens..they had me in cuffs..went downstairs...and i hear oh no its not ..Frankie...turn around and it was one of my close buddies from HS...he's a Lt. with the NYPD..so i got off...so I no longer go to those games...still go to yankee stadium [free]..but not against the Mets & Soxs

Taken as a whole, I think Red Sox fans hate the Yankees more. But that's only when you take the fans as a whole.

If you weed out all the "fringe" fans and focus only on hard-core fans, then it's probably close to a tie. As Julie (LeiterFan) points out, we Met fans are SURROUNDED by Yankee fans. And if that's not bad enough, we're surrounded by a PR machine that makes everyone in New York THINK that we should be rooting for the Yankees since they're "the" New York team. :hmm:

It's true that some pseudo Met fans can be heard to say "I want the Yankees to win since they're a NY team" but obviously, those "fans" don't count. :)

I think what amazes me, in NY is the bandwagon fans..we have it for the "outdoor" Teams...Baseball & Football...if the Jets do well..its a Jet town...if the Mets do well its a Met town...Its only the NY Rangers & Knicks who own this town..I don't get it

As a whole i would have to say Sox fans - they are much more diehard and fanatic about their team.

Mets fans on the other hand are like a two-headed monster. They hate yanks fans cause the yanks are more successful and then on top of that they root for the Sox since they have to do something while their team is home watching the postseason.

Throughout my years of experience it normally seems that if your a Met fan then most likely you will root for the Jets and if your a Yanks fan you tend to root more for the Giants. Yes, there are the cases of mixed breeds but not to often.

Here we go...typical...I guess you weren't around during the 80's huh ?

No we hate the Yankees..because of the FANS of the yankees..not the team..not the stadium...not the media...the fans

More die hard ?...you mean like the Yankee fans..it took you nearly 100 years to finally hit 3 million fans...did it 3 years in a row in the 80's

But what does that have to do with bandwagon fans in baseball & Football ?

I root for the Mets and Jets because I'm from Queens...nothing else..I root for NY Rangers because I grew up in the city not the suburbs

I have to agree with one part is the fact of all the bandwagon yankee fans. funny how throughout the year you see the average joe going to all the games and routing for the team. last week at game 1 of the ALDS you should have seen all the suits who decided now that the yanks are in the playoffs all of a sudden they have the time to go to the games or just jump on the bandwagon and will root for the team as long as they win. (That truly pisses me off) or the yanks fans who talk crap yet know nothing about the team, yes I have to agree with you there.

Every team has it cycles, yes you reached 3 million in the 80's but what about the 70's or the 90's or since 00. you see in NYC we have way to many ship jumpers (and you know what i mean) they will root for whoever is winning at the time.

And yes Sox fans are diehard and fanatic! Have you ever been to Fenway as a Yankee fan (colorful to say the least)

I have been accosted by Yankee fans...AT SHEA STADIUM. I will be at a Mets/Yankees game AT SHEA, all dressed up in Mets gear, and Yankee fans will PURPOSELY bump me and my fellow Mets fans as we're walking around the concourse. I know Mets fans who have gone to Yankee Stadium for Mets/Yankees games and who have been threatened with bodily harm for just walking around wearing Mets gear. Sad, isn't it, that Yankee fans are safer at Shea than Mets fans are in the Bronx?

At Shea 2 1/2 years ago for the Shawn Estes-vs-Roger Clemens game, I found Yankee fans in my seats. They wouldn't leave until I took out my (season) tickets and showed them those were MY seats. At that same game, a Yankee fan came up to me and started screaming that we (Mets fans) needed to show some more respect for the World Champions. Well, this was in 2002. So, I unbuttoned my authentic Al Leiter jersey and showed this jackass my Diamondbacks' World Championship t-shirt. I looked up at him, all sweetness and light, and said "perhaps you haven't heard -- the Diamondbacks aren't here today. We're playing the Yankees." He cursed and walked away.

Just a year ago, for Game 6 of the World Series, I was at a bar in Manhattan. I was with fellow Mets fans, and we were celebrating the Marlins' victory. Some woman came over to me and demanded to know how I, being in NY, could POSSIBLY not be rooting for the Yankees. She oozed bandwagoner, so I decided to test her. I asked her which team(s) Torre had managed before he came to the Bronx. She couldn't answer. So then I asked her to explain the infield fly rule. She cursed me out (is this a Yankee fan trait???) and walked away.

A fellow Mets/Islanders fan recently read a study showing something very interesting. Apparently, the overwhelming majority of people who consider themselves to be Yankee fans are NOT originally from the New York Metro area. On the other hand, however, the overwhelming majority of people who consider themselves to be Mets fans ARE from the New York Metro area.

It makes perfect sense to me. After all, I am one of those native New Yorkers (my mother was also born in Manhattan and was a passionate Giants fan), and I see absolutely no need to root for a bunch of carpetbaggers from Baltimore.

I didn't jump on the Yankee bandwagon after 9/11, and I see no need to now.

PS -- I fit the stereotype: Mets, Jets, Islanders. The trifecta of suffering.

I really don't hate Mets fans as much as I feel sorry for them. They have bar far the worst management team in baseball. Everything the Wilpon's touch turns to sh_t. I mean they are throwing money out the window like crazy. Must have gotten a hold of Steinbrenner's old notes during the early 80's just throw money at agging over the hill all stars and hopefully we can keep this thing glued together. Who can blame Vaugh for still collecting checks even though he will never play another inning of ball again.

Well we don't have to worry about that this year (at least not yet) with them on strike. Heh, BABS never really asked you this but since you are pretty much on neutral ground (halfway between Boston and NY for the most part) how is the fan base up by you??

Where I live (Simsbury CT), it's probably about 50/50. I work in Springfield, MA though, and here it's almost all Red Sox fans.

He does not back down one bit, which is why he gets so much abuse. We were in a finance meeting, like 35 people, and before the meeting someone started in with him and he began the 1918 chants to the entire room. It was funny as hell!

See i would never take that approach. i'm looking at this year and this year alone. AL East final standing 1. Yanks 2. Sox - end of discussion. Yes you all could talk about the season series and all that but it doesn't mean crap all that was is a warmup for this series. It would just go back and forth non-stop but you have to know when to pick your fights and obviously this guy doesn't know his head from his ass bringing up 1918.

Yeah, it wasn't so much what he said that was funny, it's the fact that he was willing to take on the entire room.

Nah, he sounds like a brave one just doesn't know how to approach things the right way. I'm sure you all had a good laugh about it

1: The Protein thing, Babs is always going on about his protein bars, since you know eachother from a fitness site, I figured you do the same.

2: Antagonizing fans of another team for fun I don't find amusing. AT ALL. I particularily harbor an extreme rage for men who say things like 1918, and I don't back down when talking to females. It just sounds so stupid. And it makes me want to kick them in the balls...course men that say such things probably don't have any so..........

1. I was just bustin on ya about the protein stuff. Of course I'm into the fitness thing.

2. Trust me I wasn't there to start any arguing at all and knew I was outnumbered about 150 to 2 (me and my buddy went to the game together). We didn't start anything and like i mentioned earlier the 1918 chant is about the dumbest thing I have ever heard. But when the comments start flying in your direction I'm not gonna back down either. I'm a true baseball fan and yes we don't see eye to eye cause I'm a Yanks fan but I'm not gonna start crap (especially in Boston) over a baseball game. I love to debate and give my .02 but I'm not gonna degrade anyone over their allegiance to a team (that is expect for the people who have more than one favorite team cause I find that impossible to believe) :)

One of the things I hate about interleague play is that, on occasion, I am forced to root for the Yankees. If they're playing our competition during the regular season and the Mets are in contention (like back in 1998, 1999 and 2000, for example) I was forced to want the Yankees to beat the Braves.

I shouldn't be forced to do that. It's just WRONG.

Some of the worst bandwagonners are kids, IMO.

One girl in my Latin class last year, couldn't even name ONE Yankee on request! ("It doesn't matter if you don't know any of the players, you just like the team!")

actually your really weren't rooting for the Yanks (yes I admit it) you were actaully rooting for the Braves to loose (if you can look at it that way)
