Just listening to the FAN 590 today and there is talk that Ted Rogers and the cable company, who owns the team are going to buy Sky Dome. Then on top of that there is talk that they will work out a deal with Staples Business Depot for naming rights.
God dammit I hate when this happens

I'd heard about the potential sale of SkyDome to Roger's, but I hadn't heard about the naming rights issue. Calling that building anything else just wouldn't sound right. I also don't like how these deals seem to change every few years. The Edmonton Colloseum has had two names (Skyreach Centre, Rexall Place) during the last year and there is no indication the current name will endure. I prefer a sporting complex to be named after someone and to keep that name throughout its existance. I'm not naive though. I understand this is a money issue and all other concerns will take a backseat to generating new revenue streams. It's a shame though.

I dont like the idea of Ted buying the skydome. He dosent want to raise the jays payrool but yet he is ready to buy the skydome.

Owners always seem to argue that owning the venues their teams play in is the only way to run a financially viable operation. I'm not under the illusion that owning the SkyDome will substantially enrich the team, but perhaps there will be some payroll improvement if the team doesn't have to share it's earnings with the stadium management. (I must confess I'm unaware of the specifics of the current agreement between the Jays and the owners of SkyDome.)
