Report: Blue Jays waive SS Woodward
Associated Press
10/14/2004
The Globe and Mail reported Thursday that the Toronto Blue Jays have waived shortstop Chris Woodward.
A highly placed baseball source told the paper that Woodward, 28, will be given his release if he does not accept an assignment to the minor leagues.
Woodward batted .235 in 2004, with one home run and 24 runs batted in. The Blue Jays will likely platoon the spot next season between No. 1 draft pick Russ Adams and Chris Gomez.
The Blue Jays agreed to a one-year $775,000 US contract with Woodward last December after he hit .261 in 2003 with seven homers and 45 RBIs in 104 games. He had been eligible for salary arbitration.

I can live with this move. Woodward is popular in some circles but he wasn't really contributing on the field. Let's see what the kids can do.
