PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida (Ticker) -- The Texas Rangers on Friday signed second baseman Michael Young, who played in 106 games last season as a rookie, to a one-year contract.
Terms of the deal were disclosed.
Young batted .249 with 11 homers and 49 RBI in 102 starts for the Rangers last year. He was recalled after hitting .291 with eight homers and 28 RBI in 47 contests for Class AAA Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League.
Texas now has 34 of 40 players on its major league roster under contract for the 2002 season. The unsigned players are pitchers Rob Bell, Joaquin Benoit, Doug Davis, Danny Kolb and Juan Moreno and outfielder Chris Magruder.
