Left-hander Donovan Osborne was even happier to see a live batter. The pitcher, who is vying for a spot in the rotation, threw to a hitter for the first time since May 1999. He's been sidelined since then because of a sore shoulder. He admitted to having a few butterflies.
"Once you get rid of that first pitch, it's all business again," Osborne said. "I feel strong enough, I feel healthy enough. All I have to do is keep facing these hitters. It's like riding a bike."
Osborne, 32, was a 13-game winner for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1996.
