There is a good chance Jason Varitek is a goner, because Scott Boras is being unrealistic with his demands and the Red Sox are not going to play his games, as they shouldn't. He says there is a very good chance both Carl Pavano and Troy Glaus end up on the Red Sox, and that Pedro will re-sign here.

i dont know that he is a goner for one reason: no one else is going to play his games either on those unrealistic demands.

I love Tek and all, but Ill take that trade off anyday. I heard this morning about Glaus. They can always put Meuller on second and have Belhorn be a back up like he was suppose to be last year.

Btw the way, how does this starting five sound:

Petey
Schilling
Wake
Pavano
Arroyo

Oh another thing that pissed me off this morning on the ride into work. Reports of Posada saying he will welcome Petey with open arms. Their difference will be resolved and both are gentlemen and some more BS like that. Man, you were asking for his head when he was in a Red Sox uniform. Now youre kissing his ass so that theres a chance to for him to go to NY? If I was Petey, I would tell him to kiss my a$$. Man, do I hate the Yankees. I hope they over spend AGAIN this off season and not make it to the post season.

wouldnt pedro tell him to kiss his ass just for old times sake? :D

The Yankees WILL overspend. They have no choice. They are stuck with some bad contracts that no other teams will take on (Jason Giambi, Javier Vasquez, Kevin Brown, etc), and any free agents they sign will pile on top of that. Like Princess said in another thread, they are looking at a well over $300 million payroll next year.

Gammons also said you are not going to see any big name free agents sign any contracts until about mid-December, so don't expect to hear any news at the winter meetings.

Oh yeah, and Posada...sure, talk all the shit you want about hating someone, then abandon your principles and bend down and kiss Pedro's ass just because your pitching staff sucks and you need help. What a stand up guy Posada is. :hmm:

Seriously, IF Petey leaves and goes to NY (which I doubt he will, he, unlike some player, keeps to his beliefs), I will lose all respect for him.

Posada is smart. He knows damn well he was close to getting traded to Az, so now he's sucking up to Petey so he can stay in NY.

BTW, latest gossip is RJ is about to be a Chisox.

Heres something cool that I found on Boston.com. A list of all the big name FA of 2004.

they'll certainly try. :)

BTW, cubs will be going for either Palonco or Walker for 2b, Nomar for SS (or possibly Renteria), Beltran or Drew in the OF, and I expect Rusch to be back.

You can have anyone else. ;)

This morning on ESPN Radio, Gammons said the Red Sox are the clear front runner to sign Pavano. He said when Pavano was in middle school in Southington CT, Schilling was playing in New Britain and really befriended Pavano. Gammons says that since then, Pavano has admired Schilling and has always wanted to play with him.

Also, Gammons says the Red Sox have made it very clear that they are willing to spend and sign BOTH Pavano and Pedro, and they will probably guarantee Pedro's third year if it'll get him to sign.

I find Gammons annoying, but he is usually right. During the Sox/A-Rod negotiations last year, he was never convinced it would get done.

I'm sure he gets all the ladies with his musicianship. lol

I would take the swap of Varitek for Pavano if you can bring back Martinez. You may even have enough money left over for Cabrera and/or Glaus. Having a solid top three in the rotation will be nice.

I'd rather have Tek/Pavano/Glaus than Pedro. Call me nuts. :notme:

Okay, I was on the bandwagon "don't really care too much for Pedro, yadda, yadda yadda," thing earlier this year, but I think with Schilling, Pedro and Pavano (of course, that's assuming if Pavano has a good year in '05, proving his '04 year just wasn't a one time stint, or whatever) in the starting 3 positions, we'll have a really good rounded out team, even without Varitek.

Plus, as barzilla said, you get a little left over money to sign either Glaus or OC, or even both. I could live with that, I think.

I'm betting when all is said and done, Pavano comes to Boston. And Pedro stays. That's going to be one hell of a rotation and STILL trumps anything the NYY can scratch up. Even if they do sign RJ. How many days to Opening Day? WooHoo!

Pavano makes me nervous if teams are counting on him to be an ace. I think you want him as a number three starter. Let him pitch 200 innings and provide stablity that way. I'm not sure you're going to get a 3.00 ERA from him. Pro Player Stadium (or insert stadium name here) is a pitcher's park and that season screamed CAREER YEAR.

PissedPrincess

He won't be an ace here, he'll be Derek Lowe's replacement.

is there any teams interested in Lowe? just asking
