Since I posted last week bragging about our big upset win at Miami, it's only fair that I post this week and take my lumps for our embarrassing loss to Duke. That would be the same Duke team that prior to yesterday was 1-8 with their lone win over The Citadel.

Clemson didn't look like the same team that had won four straight games. We had turnovers, dropped passes and no blocking. The defense played pretty good overall, but after Clemson took a 13-6 lead late in the fourth, they let Duke drive the length of the field to tie the game. Then our offense could not make a first down and gave them a final shot. And they capitalized by kicking a 53 yard FG as time expired. And the worst part of it was I spent my whole Saturday riding to and from Durham to witness that debacle. Talk about a long ride home. And this I still can't believe lost lost to DUKE despite seeing it with my own eyes. I was hoping it was only a bad dream.

So now we have to beat South Carolina next week to be bowl eligible. And what looked to be a promising season in August has turned out to be a major disappoinment. We will be LUCKY to finish 6-5 and get to go and play on that frozen, blue field in Boise.

What a difference a week can make!

I thought I was embrassed by Clemson's lost to Duke last week. But that was nothing compared to the embrassament I felt watching that ugly brawl yesterday afternoon in Death Valley. That took all the pleasure out of us beating arch rival South Carolina 29-7 to become bowl eligible. I have never been more ashamed to be a Clemson fan in my life.

Looking back, you could see it coming. It began went some South Carolina players ran down to the bottom of the hill and confronted the Clemson team as the were making their traditonal entrance into the stadium. There was a brief brawl at that time, flags were thrown and off setting penalites were called before the game. That really showed 'em! Then during the course of the game the refs let a lot of extaciricular activities go on after almost every other play without throwing flags or ejecting players. And by the fourth quarter, tempers on both sides were short, ready to explode and that's exactly what happened.

But that is no excuse for what happened. Those kids have to know better. That was the ugliest incident I've ever seen at a sporting event. I didn't know if I was watching football or soccer. That was a disgrace to the fans, players, coaches, the two universities and college football. Some serious action needs to be taken.

I'm as big a Clemson fan as there is. But in my opinion, they should be suspended from going to a bowl. And South Carolina should not be allowed to go to one either.

Fortunately, the Artest situation put that on the back burner. Very sad.

YD, I understand exactly what you're feeling. Felt the same way years ago when one of the A&M Corps of Cadet pulled his saber on an SMU cheerleader whose only violation was to come onto Kyle Field after a game. The obvious difference was this was the action of one Aggie fan --- The real dishonor for my money was the fact he was one of the ODs that day --- and one SMU cheerleader whereas the Clemson-SC incident erupted amongst the players.

I didn't see the game and really have no interest in watching the replays of both this fight and the debacle in the NBA that are being played ad nauseum. The offsetting personal fouls you mentioned early really bugs me. That is the biggest crap call in football these days in my opinion. Any unsportsmanlike conduct fouls should draw ejections and/or future suspensions if you ask me. The argument against that has always been one team will eventually be tempted to just send one of their backups thugs out to entice a star player on the other squad into getting ejected. But there's enough cameras at these games that if something like that is suspected, some disciplinary committee can review tapes and then dole out penalties later against the school's football program (i.e., loss of bowl game, loss of scholarship, suspensions of players for future contests, etc.)

As always, it's fans like yourself that end up feeling the most shame or guilt, and end up paying a greater price when something like a bowl suspension is the result. All the while the guilty penis heads have no idea they're just mucking up life for rest of us.

Well, it has been announced that neither team will be going bowl-ing this year. I support the decision, however, most people in these parts are pretty ticked off. The popular opinion seems to be that there is enough game film for the perpetrators to be indentified and suspended without punishing the whole team and the fans.

I guess that's a valid agrument but I just don't see what the point would be in taking half squads to go somewhere like Boise or Shreveport, especailly two teams with 6-5 records. I don't think 6-5 teams should go to bowls anyway so its no big deal to me.

However, it would have interesting to see what would have happened if either of these teams had been in line for a BCS bowl. (I know, fat chance that will happen anytime soon.) But I just wonder if these either of money grubbing comfernces would have been so quick as to turn down a $13 million payout in order to send the same message that they are sending by keeping a couple of mediocre 6-5 teams at home.

of course not, YD. If it had even been the outback bowl, they wouldnt have done that as that is also a pretty big payday.

but still, a good move here. theres no reason for them to go to a bowl in the first place and with those actions, that just clinches it!
