Well, let him leave then. The Sox made him a very respectable offer.
Besides, our lineup would destroy Pedro. :hmm:

No, I don't think the Yankees have any real interest in Petey. They want to drive the price up on us.

Agreed. At most, I see him going to a NL team. Maybe Houston. :)

Pedro Martinez visited the enemy Tuesday, meeting with Yankees owner George Steinbrenner at New York's spring training complex in Tampa, Fla.
Taking aim at the World Series champion Boston Red Sox, Steinbrenner talked at Legends Field with the free-agent right-hander.
Martinez was accompanied by agents Fernando Cuza and Pat Rooney. New York vice presidents Mark Newman, Billy Connors and Damon Oppenheimer also attended.
"We had a good meeting," Steinbrenner said in a statement, without elaborating.
Said Cuza: "I think it's the same way. It was good."
Boston general manager Theo Epstein did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment. The Red Sox reportedly made a recent two-year offer to the ace.
Yankees catcher Jorge Posada, who got into a shouting match with Martinez during the 2003 playoffs, said last week he would be happy to see him in pinstripes.
"I don't have anything against Pedro if he's my teammate. The guy is a winner. He knows how to pitch," Posada said.
In September, Martinez called the Yankees his "daddy" because of their success against him, sparking chants of "Who's your daddy?" when he pitched in New York during this year's AL championship series.
Martinez was acquired by the Red Sox before the 1998 season and has gone 117-37 for Boston, winning the AL Cy Young Award in 1999 and 2000. After beating St. Louis in Game 3 of the World Series, he acknowledged it could have been his final appearance for Boston.
"If it is, I just want the fans and everybody to understand that I did whatever possible to represent the city well, the team and that my heart will always be with them," he said. "It's been a great ride. I hope everybody enjoyed it as much as I did. Even with the struggles that I've had up and down during the season, I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed every moment. I enjoyed my career in Boston."
Switching sides in the rivalry would not be unprecedented. After going 2-0 for the Yankees in the 1977 World Series, Mike Torrez went to the Red Sox -- and gave up Bucky Dent's homer in the tiebreaker playoff for the 1978 AL East title.

George is stupid though. Thats a crap load of money. They could give that to Pavano. I dont know, see ya Petey, I guess.
I have this awesome poster of Petey, framed and everything, that I won at a charity auction (pretty pricey too). Its going to the dump.

I don't know....the radio person may be full of shit. I have not been able to find that report anywhere online, and boston.com and the NY Daily News sites would most certainly have reported that.

yah, hes probably full of crap. no word is anywhere else, so the guy is probably being an ass monkey.
Ive heard on WEEI that a "source" that is close to Martinez had said that Martinez said "He's always wanted to be a Yankee." If this is true, which I doubt, then I would love to see Petey in pinstripes, cuz I have lost all respect for him. Just 3 weeks ago, he had said he would never ever sign with the Yankees.

i want named sources! :)
Well thats exactly what Im saying. The media gets all riled up about this and then all they can say is "sources close to blah blah blah". Or "a close friend of blah blah blah." Never a name.

Gimmee a break, Petey didn't say that. This is all about driving up the price, and trying to piss off the Sox.

Could you imagine how awkward the clubhouse would be if Pedro and that old fart were in there together? Holy CRAP that would be funny.
"How's your head feeling today old man?"
"Hey, my grandpa's been acting up a bit, you wanna kick his ass too tough guy?"
Seriously though, I too would lose respect for Pedro if he went to the Yankees. I mean seriously, at some point, shouldn't it be about the game and now the millions. Once you get to that point and your are raking in millions anyway, why does it matter, you already have WAY more money than anyone needs.
Sell-out buncha chokers.
Well said.

I'm just curious on how much money Pedro thinks he needs. After all the millions he has raked in over the years, I would think he would be beyond the point of needing more.
If he signs with the Yankees, it won't be long into the season before he tells the media that the Red Sox are his daddies. He'd be dropping F-Bombs every time Manny and Papi take him outta the park.

I agree. Frankly, if he wants more than we offered, CYA effing later.

I was thinking the exact samething. He keeps talking about respect and all that junk, but how much more respect are you "expecting"? I mean Boston has more than bent over backwards for him. Hes raked up pretty close to $100 Million here. They can say its the Red Sox who gave him that money, but in reality, its the RSN who pays for his salary. So if he goes cuz he feels its a lack of respect, then EFF him, cuz he's disrespecting the whole RSN. Man, Im pissed now.
