omigosh! i found this awesome running store in my neighborhood!!  nan, i wonder if you've heard of it.... it's called JackRabbit and apparently they deal with alot of marathoners and triathletes....

so i tried on a couple pairs of running shoes (i could have tried more but i fell in love with the second one and HAD to have it) :D

the guy who helped me, Eric, looked like he was 12 (that superjoe thing) :hmm: and i'm totally clueless and i ask him if he's a runner and has he done any marathons... and he's like "um, yeah i've done a couple, just did the nyc a few weeks ago" :)

then later at home i go online and see his picture & bio and apparently he's done 10 marathons (some under 3 hours!! so i guess he's not 12!) and he's also completed 4 triathlons!! i didn't know the people who work there are HARDCORE! my kinda peeps!

well, he put me on this treadmill with a video system that shows your feet as you run.... and they watch the video in slow motion and try and figure out the best running shoes for you and what kind of extra support you need (i didn't know my right foot goes "in" when i run! no wonder it felt funny!)

so he had me try on these sneakers with extra support in this certain spot on my foot (don't know my foot vocabulary so nan i'll have to show them to you next time i see you)

they felt AMAZING! oh nan, if you haven't been to this store before i think you will fall in love!!

check out the link: http://www.jackrbt.com/

and check out the bios of the people who work there (scroll down to the middle of the page to see Eric.... i really thought he was 12!) :D they are so hardcore!! love it!

OH!! and i wanted to tell you that they also have RUNNING CLASSES!!!! :jump: omigod i'm so excited!!!!! there's a beginners group class starting in january... 12 weeks, the group meets twice a week in Prospect Park and then another class with the coach (i believe) to go through your progress and he helps you with particular questions/problems (i'm gonna ask him about my back) and nutrition and other stuff! I CAN'T WAIT!! i'm all over it!!! it's $150 for 12 weeks, that's not bad.... and at the end, everyone in this beginners class participates in the 10K race!!!

they are Asics (spelling?) and they're $145  a little pricey, i know, but i figure i can't go wrong with 'em :D they feel AMAZING and when i got on the treadmill and started running, the video showed my form improving so i liked them even more  Eric was telling me you need to buy a new pair every 300 miles! he said if you're training for a marathon, that means in about 3 months you should really get a new pair! that seems alot to me, but i think i will do whatever i need to do to prevent injury and stay in the game as long as i can.....

maybe in the spring, when you're in a bike-riding mood, you can bike down here and i can take you to this fabulous store..... and we could go running in the park too  it is 3.35 miles around the park and so beautiful, you would love it! (and not a gazzillion people like in central park)

oh, and hell yeah i'm gonna sign up for the running classes!! :jump: i can't wait!! the woman at the store said that you get to meet a ton of interesting people and you make running-friends and running partners  i would really really really love to make fitness-friends in my neighborhood (i know there are a ton of athletic/exercise freaks in my hood and this would be a great way to meet them  ) the store manager was telling me that in last year's january beginner class, there were these women who NEVER ran before.... and got totally addicted and ended up doing the nyc marathon a few weeks ago! i'm so inspired!! can't wait to do this!! God I need a *positive addiction* or my body gets so out-of-balance and i'm just so miserable :nut:

Asics! Cool! I started out with Nikes, and they used to be the only running shoes I bought. As you said with yours, they just felt right and perfect on my feet. Then I was disturbed by their labor practices in the Far East, and I boycotted and bought Reeboks. Then I went back to Nikes (wishy-washy me....:hmm: ). And my last Nikes were getting really worn down by the time I went to Scotland, and they fell apart because I wore them hiking through mud and up rocky hills, etc. So, when I got to Edinburgh, I found a sale on Asics, and bought them and changed right into them on the street and threw my trashed Nikes in the bin! :D And I love the Asics!!!

So, anyhoo...... I've been getting my legs and feet and body prepared for when I can start running again in January. I'm going for an aerobic walk in Central Park as soon as I log off. I felt great after I did it on Saturday!

I love your idea of biking to your place and running in Prospect Park!!!

That sounds great Cyn!!!!! I wish you luck!!! Hey could you do me a favor!?!?!?

My male Dal needs some running classes. He is having a hard time breathing when we go and run. So could you take him with you?!?!?!

My female Dal I have to strap on my roller blades and just let her go. She can go about a 1 1/2 before she starts to slow down. I wonder what she could do if I ran her all the time and got her in shape?!?!?

But my hats off to you people that run!!!! I hate it so freaking much but I am now doing it about a 1/2 a mile each day just with and for my dogs really. (I might hate it because of how high up we are here :notme: )

yeah, my feet are really diggin' the Asics :D i think when i learn more about running and running shoes, then i can go on my own and look for better deals :)

i think that's smart of you to start with aerobic walks.... better to take your time and go slowly than to overdo it and be unable to run for another 6 months!

yeah let me know when you are ready to go bike-riding/running at Prospect Park!! :jump: we'll have a blast AND get in shape!!!
