Got the new U2 album and listened to most of it on the way home from chicago today. Got it for the dirt cheap price of 9 bucks. :)
Anyways, I've listened to 8 of the 11 tracks so far and what I have heard so far, I would give it a solid B on initial listen. Is it their best? hardly. I save that for Joshua Tree (followed by Achtung Baby and All That You Cant Leave Behind). On repeated listens, I expect the grade to go higher (I wasnt a big fan of ATYCLB on first listen, but it grew on me rapidly).
If you are expecting songs like Vertigo, you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for 80's style U2, you will be satisfied. So far into the album, Vertigo is the weakest song of the CD. I'm not sure which song is their best but City of Blinding Lights is damned good as is track #'s 2 and 3.
Yes, Bono may think he is God but he is still a damned good songwriter. If you are a fan of U2, get the album. :)
