The news continues to be bad on the pitching front in the farm system. After recently announcing that former top draft pick Mike Jones would miss next season after undergoing shoulder surgery, the Brewers finally revealed that Chris Saenz had Tommy John surgery Sept. 23 and also will sit out next year.
Saenz went 5-5 with a 4.15 ERA in 14 games at Class AA Huntsville before being shut down, and pitched six shutout innings against St. Louis on April 24 when summoned by the Brewers for an emergency start.
The Brewers also have scratched lefty Manny Parra from an assignment in the Arizona Fall League because of recurring shoulder discomfort that plagued him for much of the season. Surgery remains an option if he does not improve.
"The physicians thought it was better for him to rest than pitch," Ash said.
