Since the Milwaukee Brewers joined the National League in 1998, the release of their season schedule has prompted three immediate questions:

When does the season start?

When is the home opener?

And, at least in the past few years, when do the Chicago Cubs come to town?

The Brewers answered those questions during a party Thursday evening at Friday's Front Row Grill.

They will open the 2005 season, their third under manager Ned Yost and their first under prospective new owner Mark L. Attanasio, with a game against Pittsburgh on April 4 at PNC Park.

The Brewers will open their home schedule a week later, when they host the Pirates with a 1 p.m. game on Monday, April 11.

The Cubs, whose 10 visits last year drew sellout crowds in excess of 42,000, will visit for 10 games, all on weekdays. Chicago will play at Miller Park in a three-game series May 3-5, a four-gamer from June 20-23 and another three-game set Sept. 20-22.

The Brewers visit Wrigley Field six times, including a three-game set on the first weekend of the season (April 8-10) and a three-game set from June 28-30.

Attanasio, whose purchase of the team is expected to receive final approval at the owner's meeting next month in Chicago, grew up in New York City and no doubt will be looking forward to a visit from the Yankees.

Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and whatever free agents principal owner George Steinbrenner signs in the wake of his team's stunning collapse in the American League Championship Series will play an interleague series at Miller Park from June 6-8.

The Yankees have not played in Milwaukee since July, 1997, and have an all-time record of 207-180 against the Brewers.

"We had a good schedule in 2004, and the one in 2005 could be better" said Jim Bathey, Brewers vice president of ticket sales. "If you look at the month of June, we've got 10 very, very attractive home games against the Yankees, Cubs and Minnesota."

Other highlights include:

A home-and-home matchup against Minnesota, the Brewers' "natural rival" in interleague play. The Brewers play at the Metrodome May 20-22, while the Twins visit Milwaukee from June 24-26.

The Brewers will play the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for the first time June 13-15 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

On May 16, the Brewers begin a four-game series against the yet unnamed team from Washington, D.C. The former Expos will play four games in Milwaukee immediately after the all-star break (July 14-17).

The All-Star Game is slated for July 12 at Comerica Park in Detroit.

San Francisco slugger Barry Bonds will visit Milwaukee with the Giants for a four-game series July 28-31.

The Brewers close out their home season with a 10-game stand against Central Division rivals Chicago, St. Louis and Cincinnati from Sept. 20-29. They will then travel to Pittsburgh to end the season where it began.

Bathey said season tickets will go on sale Monday. Single-game seats will go on sale some time in February.
