HAINES CITY, Fla. -- Chad Durbin, expected to be Kansas City's No. 4 starter, signed a one-year contract Monday with the Royals.

Durbin, whose deal is worth $275,000 plus incentives, was 9-16 with a 4.91 ERA in 29 starts with Kansas City after beginning last season with Triple-A Omaha.

The 24-year-old right-hander is 11-21 with a 5.82 ERA in 46 major league games -- including 45 starts.

Two other Royals pitchers, Kris Wilson and Jeremy Affeldt, also signed one-year deals.

Wilson was 6-5 with a 5.19 ERA in 15 starts and 14 relief appearances last season. He is competing to be either the fifth starter or a long reliever.

Affeldt, a rookie left-hander considered one of the top prospects in the organization, was 10-6 with a 3.90 ERA in 25 starts with Double-A Wichita. He will likely begin the season with Omaha.

All three pitchers signed split contracts, which means that if they are optioned to the minors they will receive less money than they would make in the majors.
