View Full Version : Randy Johnson to Boston?

Who the eff knows, but it's something to discuss. I personally would not want to give up Arroyo and Jon Lester. But with Pedro going to the Mets ( :D ), we have that $14 million per season to spend elsewhere...
From The Buzz:
It seems the Red Sox may make a run at Johnson after all. The Providence Journal reported Wednesday that the Sox and D-Backs have held numerous discussions involving Johnson, who will make $16.5 million in 2005, in the last five days. According to the Journal, Arizona would likely require a package for Johnson that would include Bronson Arroyo, pitching prospect Jon Lester and at least one other top prospect. Additionally, Johnson would likely also require a contract extension beyond 2005. Johnson has a no-trade clause and it is unclear whether he'd accept a trade to Boston. The Yankees, meanwhile, have made Johnson their No. 1 offseason priority.

If you fail at one ex-Mariner, then try try again. :D
Actually, that would be very cool if that happened. Randy has been, and will always be my favorite player. If he can't be on my favorite team, then I would love to see him on my second favorite.

I have no interest. I don't think the Sox do either, BUT, BUT this is DRASTICALLY escalating the price of Randy for the Yanks. And this is good.

I just saw this here
The Cardinals may be closing in on a deal for SP Randy Johnson. The finer points aren't known, but such a trade would likely see SP Jason Marquis and prospect Daric Barton, among others, going to Arizona
WOW, thats alot of interested in a non free agent. Beltran isnt even getting this much attention. Interesting.

I have no interest.
No interest? Dude was 16-14 with a 2.60 ERA in 245 IP for a SHIT team last year. He won't be around THAT much longer but he's got two more solid seasons left in him. He's not going to go from Cy Young candidate to John Burkett in one off-season.

Babaloo, I just don't like the guy. His EGO dwarfs Pedro's. He treats his teammates like crap. :notme:

Babs, I hate the mofo mainly because of his "I'll only go to the Yankees in a trade last year, because they have the best shot of winning BS."
Bet he feels stupid now.

Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!
I like the sox, they were my team before I had a local team to go for, but so help me God if we lose him to anyone, I'm gonna be pissed. He was the only bright spot for us last year.
To be fair, Randy never said that he would only go to the Yankees. There was so much BS written about him during the trade season last year that wasn't true that it's ridiculous. If we DO lose Randy, I sure as hell woud rather him go to the Sox than the Yankees.
By the way, someone said something about Pedro going to the Mets. Is that for sure?

If we lose Pedro, Johnson is a front runner to get.

Wouldn't it be great to see: Schilling and Johnson together once again?

I'd love to see Randy and Curt reunited in Boston, even if it means adios Pedro and Bronson.

and the seperation between teams that can compete and ones that can't grows even larger...
guess that follows along with American society
by the way this comment was not only directed at the Red Sox, just what I was thinking after reading this thread

I just like to stick up for the Skank fans because I feel like they have it a little rough around here sometimes.
And trust me, I hate the Skanks just as much as you do.

I know Dan, I stick up for them all the time which is why it hurts me when you say some stuff. If I didn't like you so much I wouldn't give an eff.

Who would Boston be willing to give up for Johnson?

I know we really didn't get much for Schilling, but then again Schilling wanted out of Arizona because things got a bit rought here. (Sorry...but when we were winning we was Arizona's biggest fan. We had a rough patch, and all of a sudden he hates it there. I lost some respect for him as a man. Great pitchet though!) It's not like we are wanting to get rid of Johnson. We are just willing to entertain a good offer.

they'd have to give money and prospects.
Probably Nixon in the deal.

Nah not Nixon we have a left and right fielder. I'd say Ortiz, Damon, Embree, 2 best prospects and 3 mil. I'm goin easy, not spitting ya in the face like we did to the yanks.

I agree with you too Dan. However, its not the Sox fan, well except for a few knuckleheads that dont do it anymore. We only rip them apart when they come in here and talk trash, and if anyone goes into the Yankees forum talking crap, Sox fan or not, we usually are the first to defend them. We love the Skank fans here, we just dont like their team. ;)

While I don't think the Sox would EVER go for a deal like that, that's what it would take for me to accept the deal. Not that management has asked me what to do lately....
But seriously, we kept trading good players last year for prospects and I just don't get that. Let's dump someone we know is good for someone that MIGHT be good, but darnit their cheaper! (Vin was around for all my rantings about this is the Dbacks forum, so for him, he gets to listen to me ***** twice. sorry dude)
I wouldn't expect the Sox to go for that deal, and I'm guessing the Sox management would be castrated for even thinking about trading Damon, but seriously, Johnson is a phenomenal pitcher, probably the best in the league and one of the best ever. That kind of talent doesn't come cheap.
