Clearwater, FL (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins signed a one-year, $355,000 contract on Saturday, which also includes a bonus if the second-year pro has a repeat appearance at the All-Star Game.

The 23-year-old Rollins finished third in the National League Rookie of the Year voting, after being the only player in the league to finish in double- figures in doubles (29), triples (12), home runs (14) and stolen bases (46).

Rollins led the league in triples and shared a first-place tie for most steals. Rollins set a club record with 35 consecutive steals without being thrown out, and batted .274 with 54 RBIs.

the Phils certainly need his speed at the top of the lineup. He does need to work at getting that on base percentage even higher though as he is a terror on the basepaths that can wreck havoc on the other teams defensive alignment.

The OBA will, I think, take care of itself as he gains experience. He is still learning the game and patience is not a natural activity for young'uns [unlike us old'ns!]. The new batting coach, Greg Gross, will have a tremendous effect on Rollins and all the rest of the young players, particularly in the area of OBA-the man was so good getting on base and studied everyone to get better. He is a classy guy whom the players should respond to.;)
