(1917) Red Sox reliever Ernie Shore replaces an ejected Babe Ruth, who had walked the only
batter he faced, and retires the next consecutive 26 batters; the only baserunner was thrown out
trying to steal second.

(1930 ) In a 19-6 win over the Pirates, the Dodgers get twelve consecutive hits, including Babe
Herman's two HRs.

(1946) The Cubs lose to the Giants, 15-10 despite back-to-back inside-the-park HRs by Eddie
Waitkus and Marv Rickert.

(1950) The game's 11th home run, a ninth inning game-winning home run by Hoot Evers, gives
the Tigers a dramatic a 10-9 victory over the Yankees and sets the major league record for for
the most homers ever hit in a single game.

(1963) Much to the dismay of Phillies' pitcher Dallas Green and commissioner Ford Frick, Met
outfielder Jimmie Piersall runs around the bases backward to celebrate his 100th career home
run.

(1971) Rick Wise hits two home runs and drives in three runs as he faces only 28 batters and
no-hits the Reds, 4-0 on 95 pitches. The Phillies' hurler will again hit two HRs in same game this
season on August 28th

(1973) For the fourth consecutive game that he pitches in the month of June, Phillies' hurler Ken
Brett hits a home run.

(1984) In a 12-11, 11-inning Chicago victory, Cub second baseman Ryne Sandberg hits a
lead-off solo HR in the ninth off Cardinal reliever Bruce Sutter tying the score 9-9 then hits a
two-run, two-out homer in the 10th to knot the game,11-11.

(1993) In a game against the A's, Jay Buhner becomes first Mariner to hit for the cycle.

(1995) 'Marvelous' Marv Throneberry, known best by his antics as a Met, dies from cancer at
age 60.

(1996) The Yankees complete a four-game sweep of the Indians in Cleveland for the first time
since 1964.
