Before he landed Capellan, Melvin reportedly showed interest in the Braves' Juan Cruz. And he repeatedly mentioned a preference for young power arms in the mold of Capellan and Ben Sheets over finesse pitchers.
It may signal a slight shift in philosophy for the Brewers' inner circle.
"They are both useful," Yost said. "The finesse guys -- who would not take Greg Maddux in their rotation? He's not a power-type arm. But we're looking to get younger, more athletic, more durable and more powerful -- the Mike Adams, Vizcaino, Dan Kolb-type arms."
