Former Pirate Tom Prince Named Manager, All New Staff Joining Squad in 05

Monday Nov 22, 2004

The Williamsport Crosscutters and Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that Tom Prince has been named the manager of the Williamsport Crosscutters for the 2005 season.

Prince was scheduled to spend the 2004 season in Williamsport as a coach but was then assigned to manage Lynchburg (A) in June after the Hillcats manager resigned. 2004 marked Prince's first season as a manger helping lead Lynchburg to a record of 57-81.

Signed as an undrafted free agent by the Pirates in 1984, Prince played 519 games in parts of 17 seasons in the major leagues with the Pirates, Dodgers, Phillies, Twins and Royals hitting .208 with 24 home runs and 140 RBI. He retired from his playing days following the 2003 season in which he appeared in 32 games with the Twins and the Royals.

Prince will be joined by pitching coach Dave Lundquist and coach Brandon Moore. Lundquist, selected in the 5th round of the 1993 draft by the Chicago White Sox, pitched in a total of 37 major league games, all in relief, with San Diego and Chicago. He appeared in 15 games with Altoona (AA) in 2004 going 3-2 with a 5.75 ERA. 2005 will mark his coaching debut. Moore has spent the last four seasons as a coach in the White Sox organization.

Jeff Branson, who managed the Cutters to a 34-40 record in 2004 will manage Hickory (long A) in 2005 and will be joined by former Cutters pitching coach Ray Searage.

The Crosscutters open the 2005 season June 21 in New Jersey. The home opener is slated for June 27 as Williamsport hosts Aberdeen.
