Mets announce scouting staff additions
The New York Mets announced the following additions to their scouting department: Russ Bove, Amateur Scouting Director; Bryan Lambe, Coordinator of Professional Scouting; Rudy Terrasas, Assistant Amateur Scouting Director; Doug Gassaway, Texas and Louisiana Area Supervisor and Fred Mazuca, Southern California and Mexico Area Supervisor.
RUSS BOVE: Russ Bove joined the Mets after spending last year as a Special Assignment Scout with the Montreal Expos. Bove, 53, was born and raised in Queens. He graduated from Christ the King High School and from St. John's University. Russ was the co-captain of the baseball team and won the Peter P. Smith Award in 1971 as St. John's Most Outstanding Player. Bove, who was a District All-American first baseman in 1971 and 1972, would later coach at St. John's and New York Tech. Russ began his scouting career in 1984 with the MLB Scouting Bureau. Bove worked at MLBSB through 1992, before he joined the Brewers. He remained in Milwaukee through 2003. Bove is a nine-time Topps Scout of the Month Winner.
BRYAN LAMBE: Bryan Lambe spent the last four years as a Special Assistant/Special Assignment Scout with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lambe, 58, was a major league scout with the Texas Rangers from 1995-2000 and from 1985-1995 he was a National Cross Checker with the Rangers. Bryan was a scout with the Major League Scouting Bureau from 1980-1985. Lambe played in the Detroit Tigers minor league organization from 1970-1976 and later coached in minors with the Tigers from 1977-1978.
RUDY TERRASAS: Rudy Terrasas joins the Mets from the Milwaukee Brewers where he was a professional scout from 2003-2004. He also worked as a scout with the Texas Rangers from 1993-2002.
DOUG GASSAWAY: Doug Gassaway spent last year as a professional scout with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Doug joined the D-Backs in 2001. Gassaway was a scout with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays from 1998-2000, where he signed Carl Crawford and Jim Morris (righthanded pitcher for whom the Movie "The Rookie" was based upon). He also was a scout with the Chicago Cubs from 1989-1995.
FRED MAZUCA: Fred Mazuca re-joins the Mets after working as a scout for the Mets from 1998-2002. Mazuca was a scout for Montreal in 2003-2004. He also worked in the scouting department for Philadelphia from 1989-1995.
