not much detail in there as its mostly about the new york markets, but the cubs have offered beltran a 5 or 6 year deal for beltran. I'm sure it wont amount to much, but at least they are throwing their hats in the ring.

It looks like a token offer so the tribune can tell the fans, "Well, we made a bid for him, but we were outbid by anotherteam."

Sad.

I wonder where that rumor came from. I almost split my stomach muscles when I saw that Boras said that five teams had met his seven year 112 minimum.

well, the cubs didnt deny it (both in the AP and suntimes). but i think they are probably willing to offer the same as the astros. I dont really blame them for not going up to the 7 year 112. If the cubs dont sign Beltran, they can easily turn their attention to Magglio. He would be a good option provided his knee is relatively healthy. That wouldnt be a bad OF with Magglio in Left, Corey Patteron in CF and Sammy in Right, with Hollandsworth and Jason Dubois as the 4th and 5th OFs.
