View Full Version : Peterson for Hillenbrand?

The Jays may have to give up reliever Adam Peterson in order to acquire Shea Hillenbrand from Arizona.
Peterson has the potential to be a quality setup man. It's not an especially high price to pay, but we're still not sure the Jays should be surrendering any talent for the arbitration-eligible Hillenbrand. He might make more than he's worth next year.

REN, How'd you like that trade?

I think Peterson is going to be one hell of a reliever, so he'd be tough to give up. But Hillenbrand was once an all-star, and we do need an offensive punch, so it might not be so bad.

I'm torn. The Jays need to find a way to score some runs, but I'd hate to give up a potentially good arm for maybe a year of offence. I will officially sit on the fence for now.

Shea is a huge A-hole. Please don't do this.

He called Theo a homo on a radio station. He said and I quote: " Go ahead Theo, try to trade me you Homo, you'll regret it as I become the next Bagwell."

that turned me off a little. But on the other hand the Jays need another bat either way.

I don't have to like a guy to want him on my team. If he can get the job done, bring him on down. If we only stocked our roster with nice guys, we'd be lucky to field a full team.

Besides..."Nice Guys Finish Last",.....whoa, maybe we ARE nice guys..
But seriously, most rational Jay fans, ( and I think I am one), know we are going nowhere in 2005, or in 2006 either.
Budget constraints and J.P.'s strange ways. :notme:
However,.500 ball would be nice to get back to, for starters.
We need to get enough competitors to put more bums in the seats, and a greater viewing audience for all the TV games, which would up the revenue there.
We need a lot more revenue to get playing back with the Big Guys, like those 4 million a-year attendances that let us sign some big names in the early 90's.
We can't have anyone calling anyone else "Homos" up here in Canada though, because there's jail time for Political Incorrectness up here, even though there's very little jail time for actual crimes. :(
regards;
Mike

I can't rationally disagree with this, but I do believe in miracles. :D

A little exaggeration there.

We can do something in 2005. Remember, we werent doing anything in 2003 either, and well we came within a game first that year. I say we win somewhere close to 85 games for third again

Is Shea happy with the idea of coming back east? I thought he was a southern Cal or Ariz boy. I realize he has no control over a trade but will he be happy enough to produce?
The Jays need some sort of offense, I think maybe two big bats away. Those big bat though do not have to come from free agency. Maybe it could come from within? Perhaps? What's on the farm?

The farm usually produces great outfield depth, I want to see what Gabe Gross can do this year, if not, he'll be used as trade bait, like Jayson Werth was last year.
Anyways, I dont know if the Shea trade is looking likely, since Shawn Green isnt going to Arizona.

Sheesh, re-reading what I wrote, do ya think I could speak English? :laff: It's amazing you could understand my questions. :laff:
So about this guy Gabe Gross, is he a corner outfielder or center? What kind of hitter is he, power or slap hitter? Does he have speed? Do you think he has a shot in making the team out of ST? And is he Greg Gross' (Phillies fame) son?
So many questions, I know. Call me curious or nosy, whichever works for ya. :D

I believe Gross is a former football Quarterback turned centerfielder. I have no idea what kind of hitter he is, but I know he does have some pop, and he has a pretty good shot at making hte team at ST seeing as how he already played there in 2004

Blue Jays acquired infielder Shea Hillenbrand from the Diamondbacks for RHP Adam Peterson.
Despite playing in hitter's park, Hillenbrand has a career OPS of 770. The Blue Jays should have been able to find a DH who could do that for the minimum. Instead, they'll probably pay Hillenbrand $4 million or so. At least their lineup now seems set. The left field platoon of Frank Catalanotto and Reed Johnson can lead off, followed by 2B Orlando Hudson, CF Vernon Wells, 3B Corey Koskie, DH Hillenbrand, 1B Eric Hinske, RF Alexis Rios, C Gregg Zaun/Greg Myers, SS Russ Adams. Adams will compete for the leadoff job, and Rios could move up.

The trade is official:
The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have acquired IF SHEA HILLENBRAND from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for RHP ADAM PETERSON.
HILLENBRAND, 29, hit .310 last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks with 36 doubles, 15 home runs and 80 RBI in 148 games. The 6-1, 211 lb. right-handed hitter posted a .348 on-base percentage while collecting 24 walks and 49 strikeouts.
In his four Major League seasons, with the Boston Red Sox (2001-2003) and Diamondbacks (2003-2004), he is a career .288 hitter with 65 home runs and 309 RBI. The Mesa, Arizona native was the Red Sox 10th round selection in the 1996 First Year Player Draft.
PETERSON, 25, split the 2004 season between New Hampshire of the Eastern League (AA), Syracuse of the International League (AAA) and Toronto where he appeared in three games.
