The Tigers have contacted Magglio Ordonez and his representative, Scott Boras, to discuss the possibility of bringing the outfielder to Detroit. MLB.com is reporting that a deal between the two sides is not close but the team has expressed interest in Ordonez and would consider signing him to a contract based on plate appearances and games played. Magglio is considered an injury risk due to the fact he was limited to 52 games last season because surgery and bone marrow edema in his left knee.

The Tigers worked out a similar deal last winter with Ivan Rodriguez, another Boras client, that was based on the catcher's ability to stay healthy and it became one of the best acquisitions of the off-season. The Rangers and Mets are also rumored to be interested in Maggs, but New York would take itself out of the running if it completes a deal to bring in Carlos Beltran.
