I know it probably won't mean much to anyone outside of New York, but I'm pretty excited about this.
The artist Christo - who makes news with his "wrapping" of huge structures and areas, and his environmental art, now has begun a project in Central Park. The past two days, as I've been running, I've seen them setting it up. IT'S HUGE! It will be officially "opened" on February 12th.
What he's going to be doing is lining the footpaths in Central Park with big pieces of fabric that will hang above the footpaths, and blow in the breeze....... saffron color. They'll be using 23 miles of the footpaths in the park.
It's sort of hard to describe, but here's a rendering by Christo, found on his and his wife's website.

If you're interested in reading about this project, because there are so many details that I can't relate them all, here's the website:

They're putting tons of people to work putting this project together, it is absolutely environmentally friendly, taking into account the people that use the park, and the animals and vegetation in the park. The waving pieces of cloth reach down to 7 ft. above the ground, so people who use the paths for running can run beneath them.
They've taken such care not to disturb the park, it's incredible, and it's really fun being in the park watching them set it up.
