I heard the latest Sosa trade rumor the other day on The Score abut Sammy being traded to Baltimore for Jerry Hairston,Jr. and P Jorge Julio.

Any thoughts on that?

Ray,

I expect Sammy to be moved. It appears there is too much interest out there for something not to get done. Why there is so much interest I do not know. Oddly enough, the interest in DC is somewhat understandable because Sosa would be a name for the new team, but why do if you are Baltimore? All it would do is tie you up for another two years. The club proved last year that the pitching staff was the problem......

Here is a question for Cub fans. Would you rather have.....

1. A collection of young semi-proven major league players (Julio and Hairston)
2. A player that plays the same position as Sammy (Cliff Floyd)
3. A group of highly rated minor league prospects

well, we do need a closer, so thats why we would want julio. but julio is erratic isnt he?

ideally i would like a person to play the same position as sammy, but floyd is *ahem* never healthy.

prospects? we have enough of those. unless they are knocking on the door of being ready, prospects dont help us win this year or even next. plus they would have to be at the right positions.

Ray,

Of course, the prospects angle doesn't necessarily help you per se except to cut salary so you can easily afford Ordonez. Ordonez would be more productive than Sammy anyway.

agreed. but realistically, if we get prospects, we are eating a large portion of salary anyways.

Gotta agree about trade rumors getting old, Ray, and I usually don't monger them around, but Derek Lee and Sosa coming to Colorado for Todd Helton has been getting a lot of airplay around here since after Christmas. That would torque me, but I'm already torqued, so no biggie, haha - I think that would mean the Cubs would take on an additional $50 mil over the next 4 years, which is why it probably won't happen -

tribune spend over 110 million a year? (thats what it would end up being). no way would that happen.

didnt hear that one though. I wouldnt mind that one though since I wouldnt be paying the salaries. lol

Haha - if I was paying the salaries, I couldn't field a T-ball team. The way I heard it, the Cubs were all for a Sosa/Helton swap, but the Rox want Lee thrown in - just a rumor, but a juicy one, eh?
