The Cubs Friday signed right-hander Chad Fox to a one-year minor league contract for the 2005 season.
Fox will join the Cubs in spring training as a non-roster invitee.
Fox, 34, has seen major league action with Atlanta (1997), Milwaukee (1998-2002), Boston (2003) and Florida (2003-2004). The right-handed reliever is 10-11 in his major league career with 203 relief appearances and a 3.45 ERA.
Fox held opponents to a .225 average last season with the Marlins, giving up just nine hits and one home run while striking out 17.
He went 2-1 with a 2.13 ERA with the Marlins in 2003.
Fox had his best season in 2001 with the Brewers when he appeared in 65 games, going 5-2 with two saves and a 1.89 ERA
