The Devil Rays agreed to terms on a one-year contract on Monday with free agent second baseman Roberto Alomar. The deal assures Alomar of being their every-day second baseman. Alomar split time between the Diamondbacks and White Sox last year, batting .263 with four home runs and 24 RBI in just 171 plate appearances.

It's tough to imagine Alomar being anybody's every-day second baseman any more. That being said, he should be able to impart some wisdom to mega-prospect B.J. Upton, who figures to be playing either third or shortstop a lot in 2005. Fantasy owners should not be fooled into over-paying based on his name and starting gig. Robbie's power is fading, he no longer steals many bases, and he hasn't batted .300 in three years.
