My strategy...

Well basically my strategy is to go into this e-mail auction completely unprepared. I have no papers in front of me, I'm looking at no web sites dollar values. I have no particular strategy in calling out players... some players I want... some I hope others will over bid for. But thats it, I don't have a list of thm either. Its straight off the top of my head. My reasoning behind this is to get true auction results where as you come in with a strategy and end up just winging it. Because there is time in between rounds to regroup and re-establish a strategy, I have decided to lack a strategy so that the results are good.

No books, no websites, no papers... just straight off the top of my head... leaves me open to mistakes, but oh well that sucks for me, owners make mistakes during auctions and there's no reason i should be immune to them. That's about it... I like the way things have gone so far... haven't really had to adapt my strategy or lack there of. Round 4 seems like a good time to come away with a hitter.

Shit happens people pay alot for players and the get hurt or traded to the AL... it could happen to anyone so that doesn't discourage me from making the big bids... lets just pray that my contingencies are good enough to keep me from getting stuck with 2 expensive players at the smae position.

Rounds 4 and 5 stradegy update.

I aquired 2 hitters, both young and talented. I brought in Jimmy Rollins for $29, which is a good deal considering he's SS good for 60 steals a good average, 290 or so and some hrs. Luis Castillo went for 29 also so thats a pretty good deal for SBs and SS at the same time.

I also brought in Dunn at $32. Considering the potential for super stardom it was a "risk" worth taking. The guy has the guy has the ability to post a 280, 100, 45, 100 season and the hrs and RBIs are understated considering the potential this kid has. At this price I'll take the so called "risk" that comes with young players.

I didn't aquire anyone in the 5th round. I was alittle disappointed, htough I'd get Marlon Anderson at 10 but didn't happen.

Round 6 is stacked with closers, hopefully I'll come away with one at a reasonable price. Money is becoming tight quickly, I may have to cut back for a while if I want to be in the hunt for bargains later on... round 6 won't start the bargain hunting. I need a closer and there are a couple players that I like, if the price is right.

I'm sticking with the no strategy deal... I hope to get some players very cheap soon.

My strategy for round 6 was to get a closer and Drew. Instead I came away with 2 closers lost Drew because of cap and Sean Casey whose a solid 1B. This leaves me in financial trouble. I'm gonna start calling players with little or no value and getting them for $1. If someone wants to out bid me on them... go right ahead. I'm so screwed! My contingencies weren't good enough and I didn't pay enough attention to my remaining cap room or else I'd have Drew and my closer and still have some money left.

Oh well, time to be really cheap... starting with David Coggin. I don't think he's even gonna win the starting job (being a Phillies fan there are some other guys who could take it. If I get him for $1 fine. If not then whatever he's not worht more then that.

:hmm: How did I screw my self so bad in one round????

After round 7 I have had to devise another scheme. I threw David Coggin out there knowing he has the potential to make the Phillies rotation. Although he is in serious competition. I didn't get him valueing at $1. The idea was that he's not worth anything so I;ll get him, but the overpaying is evident. $2 maybe, but $6? That's nuts! I gave it one more go in round 8 with Padilla his chance is even worth then Coggin's.

For the next rounds after 8... 9-15 or so, I'm going to call out the valuable players forcing other teams to pay for them while they still have money and preventing good deals from being had later on. Following that I will go back to my cheap players in hope that everyone elses financial situation will be as bad as mine....

This proves a bad strategy for a draft is having no strategy. I REPEAT YOU WANT TO HAVE SEVERAL STRATEGIES JUST IN CASE!!!!

The rest of this draft will be a how to for me and you. How to pull away with a respectable draft after overbidding early and often?

I will now have several changing strategies throughout the rest of the draft... one of which is very devious... so I may just have to pull it out of my bag of tricks... its rather risky though and I sure hope I don't have to use it... after I use it (if I do) I will let you know what it was... but there is a good cahnce my thread is being read by others. If you are in the league and reading my thread, WATCH OUT!!!

At least I over bid on good players... I just watched Coggin go for $6... and Padilla go for $4. I wouldn't have even payed 2 for either of them... everyone seems to think that Padilla is in line for the closer job, but little do they know that he's in a completely different line now and he's at the back of it. I descided to call out Bottalico whose actually 2nd in line for closer job and Wendell whose 3rd... then it'll be Cormier 4th and Santiago or Padilla 5th.

Changing my strategy back again... instead of calling out super stars, I'm gonna keep calling out crappy players and watching people over bid for them while they still have money. Then I should be able to pass some actual good sleepers through... in 5 or so rounds... KEEP BIDDING BOYS!
