I just came back from a nice invigorating run in the park! :D

(Okay...... I know you're all probably sick of me loving this cold weather, but...... I LOVE THE COLD WEATHER! :cheer:

:D

Oh, and, while I was running, I looked up and there was Pale Male, the red-tailed hawk, sitting on a big branch of one of the trees! I crossed the street, and stood on this little bridge and just looked at him...... Gawd..... he's gorgeous! And then his mate flew in and they sat there together, then she left, swooping down and around so I could get a really good look at her, then he flew off the other way. Later, as I was finishing my run, I looked up and there he was again, in a different tree! He was eyeing some pigeons. :D

So, this has been Nature Talk on NPR. Please tune in tomorrow when we'll be discussing Central Park and its squirrels being targets of red tail hawks.

Thank you.

I am having electrical problems with my car. Every time i want to drive it, I have to go and put the battery charger on it to give it enough juice to get to where I am going. The unfortunate part about it is that I can not run the heat because it sucks up too much power. I thought I was going to die yesterday.

Sounds like the alternator Shawn

actually, no... it is the computer. Th voltage regulator is in the computer. When the alternator is on the car, it tests as putting nothing out. When you take it off of the car and to autozone to have them hook it up to their machine which has its own regulator, it tests fine. Only down side is that a new computer is going to cost me $300, so I am trying to find myself a used one.

it doesnt stink if you empty the garbage before you leave....

I still think that Dan has you beat, though. He livesin a place where it is supposed to be 25 degrees and snowing in January...;) You live in a place where it is supposed to be 78.

Shawn is it possible to just change the voltage regulator? It should be able to be done. What kind of car do you have? Maybe I can find that computer for you here in Texas and get it to you. I personally have a car that the alternator goes out every 3 years to within a week every time. I swear. It has done it 2 times now. The first one died after 3 years of owning it, then I changed it with a new lifetime warranty one from Autozone. Then 3 years later it did it again in the same week and month as the first one. So now I am betting this 3rd one will do the same. Atleast it is dependable though, I know when it is gonna go out!!!!

Let me know shawn!!

I had the brain go out in a truck. That sucked. It was a manual and they didnt make the brain for that truck anymore.... To new so no junk yard in the US had one. but no spares around... They made them for a auto tranny yet and so when I was about to scrap the truck they found a old one in Texas in some small little town with a old man owning a garage that just had one up on the shelf.... By the time I got done fixing that hunk of crap it would have cost me about the same to by a new tranny and brain to put in and all the refitting stuff than the mess we went though....

nancy, i love that you love the cold weather. maybe you can teach ME to love it! :D i have to say, i just got back from the store--i ran there and back, and you know...there IS something about the nice crispy cold air  i came back feeling rejuvenated! more than i would if i had run in warm/cool-ish weather. so maybe there IS something to this cold.....

question: what the heck do you WEAR to go running in weather like this???? my running instructors keep picking on me cuz i always overdress and i'm the only one in class wearing like 6 layers :D and that was when the weather was 57 degrees! .....SO now how do you dress for a day like today? do you have a light running jacket or something? and what kind of hat do you wear? :D

:D Okay, now we're on a subject about which I know alot. :D When it gets cold like this, I haul out the old Reebok running suit that I bought on sale. It has these dorky snow-pants-like pants, that swish, and a matching jacket, which is lined with a nice "wicking" liner.. (which wicks away the moisture when you perspire)..... underneath the jacket I wear just a thermal shirt. Then I add a fleece "gator", which covers my neck and chin. Granted, it sounds like alot, but it's basically "light"....... so I can stay warm without too many layers to weigh me down.

Foot-wise, usually I don't do this, but when it's frigid like this, I wear really thin "liner" socks, and on top of that, just regular running socks.

On my head, I have a light (but warm) running sort of "skull" cap that covers my head, and then I have these ear-muffs that my mom gave me this year....... (they're called "180's) and you put them on your ears and they hug your ears and go snug around the nape of your neck.

Hands are another thing. My hands always are cold, so normally I wear a thin running glove as a bottom layer, then my fleece mittens. Today, I forgot the bottom layer, and my hands were freezing when I got back.

So, you ran to the store and back...... and felt good. I think the thing is, you're exercising, so you get your heart pumping and that blood flowing, and it keeps you warm. That's what has always happened with me.

'course, I talked to the b/f and he thought I was totally nuts. Keeps calling me a crazy Scandinavian. :nut:

well, joe, I am not sure if you can replace just the regulator. The problem is that the regulator is in the computer itself. I dont know if you can get just an external regulator or not. I dont know enough about the electrical systems and how they work to know. The car seems to have a couple of other issues whcih may be related to the computer as well, so I may be just as well off replacing the thing. I dont know.

It snow tonight here. But that didn't bother me.

It was the patch of ice in down the block that I sliped and fall of my behind twice tonight that bothered me.
